Bottle. [thanks, cfrancis]drougkolya (276) - Otterburn Park, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 24, 2010
Pous completely black with a staying, rather large, light-beige head. Mild aroma with dark chocolate, a hint of smoke, some coffee and lactose. Low to medium carbonation, fine light dry and light creamy palate. Flavour is kinda mild but very elegant. No sign of the 9%. Milky darkish chocolate, quite sweet. The lactose adds a smoky hint. Fairly sweet overall, but not in a bad way. Good.
Going a bit by memory - it was good but it wasn’t a standout. Black as can be with head that fizzles away. Very roasty. Quite dry. Alcohol totally hidden. I’m torn on the lactose - it either added a smoothness or a powdery/drying effect. Hard to describe. Atheist_Peace (981) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA - AUG 14, 2010
UPDATED: NOV 27, 2010 500ml bottle. Pours nearly black with a frothy tan head that has good staying power. Full of coffee on the nose with a fair hop presence and a hint of milky chocolate. Far hoppier on the palate than you’d expect with hints of coffee and lactic sugar. A little off balance and a touch thin but still interesting. neuromatt (1225) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 30, 2010
Sample at the Hart House Craft Beer Festival. Bottle, served in a tasting glass. Pours hazy dark walnut with a minimal tan head. The head quickly fades but leaves a fair bit of lace. On the nose, aromas of roasted malts and molasses, grassy hops and notes of coffee and earth. The flavour is moderately sweet throughout with a light bitterness emerging towards the end. On the palate, it is medium in body with a milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is an interesting stout. It is lighter in body and the hops are more prominent than I would have expected. The overall effect is a good one. It is hard to believe this one is 9% ABV--the alcohol is very well hidden. 2010-07-29

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2013 Bouteille 500 ml. 9%. TimE (5817) - Tokyo, JAPAN - JUL 18, 2010
Rating from memory. Moderately sweet, smooth, lots of roasted malts. Full bodied. Not overly complex, but well balanced. Decent. Parksy (123) - Alberta, CANADA - JUN 28, 2010

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2013 on tap at bateau de nuit, qc. re-rate. hazy very dark brown with a nice beige head, good retention and lacing. roastiness, lactose-like sweetness, light pine, grass and resin. some burnt cereals, slight high abv feel. average to soft carbonation, medium body. a well crafted lactose impy. Deep dark brown look with dark tan cap - thick and gorgeous. Lots of aromas of malt and cocoa, plus some acidity - lactic and citrus. Taste follows this with added dark fruit and lightly smoky roast. Overall unexpectedly smooth, on the verge of being a little fat and sweet yet surprisingly drinkable. Replays of finish are the light pleasant lactic sourness. Mucho gusto.
