Bottle. [thanks, cfrancis]
Pous completely black with a staying, rather large, light-beige head. Mild aroma with dark chocolate, a hint of smoke, some coffee and lactose. Low to medium carbonation, fine light dry and light creamy palate. Flavour is kinda mild but very elegant. No sign of the 9%. Milky darkish chocolate, quite sweet. The lactose adds a smoky hint. Fairly sweet overall, but not in a bad way. Good.

Going a bit by memory - it was good but it wasnt a standout. Black as can be with head that fizzles away. Very roasty. Quite dry. Alcohol totally hidden. Im torn on the lactose - it either added a smoothness or a powdery/drying effect. Hard to describe.

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2010 500ml bottle. Pours nearly black with a frothy tan head that has good staying power. Full of coffee on the nose with a fair hop presence and a hint of milky chocolate. Far hoppier on the palate than youd expect with hints of coffee and lactic sugar. A little off balance and a touch thin but still interesting.

Sample at the Hart House Craft Beer Festival. Bottle, served in a tasting glass. Pours hazy dark walnut with a minimal tan head. The head quickly fades but leaves a fair bit of lace. On the nose, aromas of roasted malts and molasses, grassy hops and notes of coffee and earth. The flavour is moderately sweet throughout with a light bitterness emerging towards the end. On the palate, it is medium in body with a milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is an interesting stout. It is lighter in body and the hops are more prominent than I would have expected. The overall effect is a good one. It is hard to believe this one is 9% ABV--the alcohol is very well hidden. 2010-07-29

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2013 Bouteille 500 ml. 9%. Rougetre trs fonc presque noire. Arme despresso et de cacao noir. Assez robuste en bouche, des notes dalcool initiales avertissent le consommateur. Ensuite, caf et espresso en moindre prsence, agrmentent le tout. Un peu danis qui agace. Amertume en finale. Trs bonne.

Rating from memory. Moderately sweet, smooth, lots of roasted malts. Full bodied. Not overly complex, but well balanced. Decent.

Deep dark brown look with dark tan cap - thick and gorgeous. Lots of aromas of malt and cocoa, plus some acidity - lactic and citrus. Taste follows this with added dark fruit and lightly smoky roast. Overall unexpectedly smooth, on the verge of being a little fat and sweet yet surprisingly drinkable. Replays of finish are the light pleasant lactic sourness. Mucho gusto.
