The name sort of says it all. John Maier, our Brewmaster, wanted to create a beer that defied traditional style definitions. The result was a remarkably hoppy yet balanced and malty ale that quickly became a cult favorite in our Newport brewpub. But what was it? It was not quite a barley wine and not quite a double or imperial IPA. Who really cares about putting beers into narrow categories? Great beer is great beer - just drink it and enjoy!

Super strange aroma of candies, malty and sweet. Golden almost clear color. Perfect lacing. Taste also super weird. Sweet, licorice, malty. Sweetness is very nicely countered by bitterness. Big body, quite thick and dense. Very interesting brew!

On draught during the "Fat Heads Hits Bobs Bar" event on 05/17/2016. Hazy orange color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to a wispy film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of tropical fruit, malt and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of piney hops, caramel malt and citrus, The finish is fruity hops up front with a lingering toffee and malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Pours a hazy medium reddish brown. Aromas of light fruit, hops, caramel malts, kind of medicinal. Flavor is to strong for me, big alcohol taste, malty with a spicy taste.

Bottle from Caps & Taps, London - UK. Color: hazy orange amber beer with no carbonation and small white foam. Smell: caramel and caramel malt domination. Really sweet malt domination and alcohol. Toffee notes. Well balanced with grassy and hoppy nose. Very intensive. Taste: full body with sweet oily malt sensation. Caramel and toffee domination. Really sweet beer. Good attenuation with a high resin and hoppy blast. Very intensive. This beer is a cross over between Barley Wine and then an Imperial IPA. Very impressive and high pine and resin finish. Aftertaste: sweet toffee caramel with alcohol finish. Resin and pine finish. Dry bitterness and astringent alcohol.

Quite sweet and malty but then piney, grapefruity in a lingering bitterness. More barley wine to me but thats besides the point anyway. Pretty strong and sweet. Tough to get down if Im honest
