COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

1998 vintage. Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Poszło mocno w Barleywine (melasa, śliwki itepe), alkohol totalnie schowany, ale trochę wodniste. Tak czy siak - ogromny szacunek.

From 33 bottle. Pours intense brown, with a limited whitish head. Aroma is of coffee, caramel and licorice. Body is medium-thick, with quite some carbonation and stickiness at the same time. Sweet dominates taste with just a hint of bitter. More sweet finish. A great beer

I drank this in the Restaurant Appelmans, Antwerp. Typical Belgian beer, yeast is dominated, (I have 0.33l bottle with batch 15-580 and best-before 12/2020)

Aroma: boozy, malty and spicy; Appearance: very dark amber pour with off white head that lingers; Taste: follows nose - smooth, delicious, boozy; Overall: even with widespread distribution, still a special treat.

Flaske best før 12/2021. Gjær og noe brødskorpe i aroma. Fraværende humle. Savner noe vinøs aroma. Mørk rødbrun. Kraftig off-white, vedvarende skumtopp. Varmende alkohol. Litt mye bitterhet? Medium kropp. Relativt kraftig co2. Ikke min favoritt, men virker typeriktig nok.

Thick beige head. Nose is not as strong as you expect. I just get malt and yeast..... Upon heavy sniffing I get a bourbon like smell. Thick mouthfeel. It has a strong sweet taste with a creamy edge. I get some plum, maybe chocolate and yeast. The alcohol is also apparent but not cloying. The finish leaves a bitter taste ....But in a good way. Again it leaves me thinking of a sweet bourbon. Perhaps a mapled one. Such as Evan Williams. The longer it sits the more flavour it gains. Don’t drink this one cold. Although I might just prefer the red. I think it is mood dependent tho. Also at 9% I can’t drink as many of these as I can the red. Top stuff.
