COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Aroma: Caramel and alcoholic touch. Appearance: Very dark brown color with clear liquid and white frothy head. Taste: Medium sweetness with light bitter notes. Palate: Full body with thin liquid and average carbonation. Sweet caramel finish with very subtle alcoholic touch. Overall: Very good beer, strong flavours and notes in the nose. The alcoholic touches are very subtle and do not overpower the other features.

Pours rather dark muddy brown, bubbly, head dissipates fairly quickly. Fruity and spicy nose - raisin, currant, fig, gingerbread. Flavour is sweet, juicy and winey, with spicy finish. Notes of caramel, toffee, citrus peel, banana, clove, allspice. Dry floral finish - some noticeable booze here. Complex, well balanced, and very pleasant.

Mooi kleur, eerste smaak sensatie lijkt een beetje op pistache, verder een mooi smakelijk biertje, wat voor herhaling vatbaar is. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

An overrated beer, not saying it is a bad one, but I have had better within this category. Quite sweet with roasted malt.

From 330 ml bottle. Pours brown with considerable head and foam retention. The staple aromas of clove and roasted nut of belgian ales is vigorous. Slightly dry body, marvelously balanced for it’s powerful 9% alcohol content. A great belgian strong ale.

Oiolosse (126) - Granada, SPAIN - MAY 14, 2017

Not much to add that has not already been said. Dark and smooth. Looks very sexy in a proper trappist glass!
