PalCabral (162) - - OCT 27, 2013
Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours hazy and pale, with a froth head that quickly settles to a thin layer. It’s not a looker - it looks terribly thin. Those poor monks had to do with the second or third runnings... It looks like a wheat beer but the thin head tells the truth that there is none or very little wheat in the malt bill. The aroma is more promising. The chimay yeast comes through in a way we don’t feel it do in the other beers, where it is hidden behind more flavorfull malts. It’s sweet and citrusy, maybe some butterscotch hints too. Very entising. However, the flavor lets the beer down. It is thin. The pilsner malt cannot carry the taste alone and the hops comes in to play first string. In the back of the mouth some of the citrus is still there but is a refreshing beer at best. Just not enough flavour. High effervecence and light mouthfeel puts the closing chapter on a negative note. I understand why it was a beer for the monks only.

Bottle. It poured a hazy gold color with a nice white head. The aroma was floral and fruity with notes of grapes, banana, bread dough yeast, and spices. Taste is sweet.

Charakterystyczna butelka 330 ml. Taki sobie zwyczajny Belg, dużo przegrywa z klasztorniakami. Aromat drożdżowy, mało szczypie w język. Barwa jasnozłocista. Odfajkowano.

SPDickerman (1239) - Texas, USA - APR 2, 2017
Pours hazy golden with a fluffy white head. Smells floral, spiced, hints of sweetness. Taste is spice, sweet, hop bitterness to balance, and hints of bready yeast. Light-bodied with a fizzy texture and average mouth-carbonation, Chimay Dorée finishes with a lingering floral kiss.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet’s BU. Golden body. Big, frothy, white head. Heavy ester nose. Banana, spice, some yeast. Banana, lots of wort, cloves, hay flavour. Some berries. Spice. Very sweet, some bitterness. Lots of fizzy carbonation. Quite decent, medium body. Very well done at only 4,8 % ABV!

11.2oz bottle. Honey orange-tan body. Creamy white head. Funky, zesty, earthy yeast tones. Very Belgian. Easy going medium bodied. Soft carbonation. Coriander and salt? Very Gose-like spice tones. Very drinkable, quality offering. Zesty, easy going, but still displays Trappist depth. Nice.
