December 2017 - Tasting at One Canada Square. Bottle shared with big thanks to Kenny. As 'Chimay Grande Réserve Vieillie En Barriques (2016/3)', 10.5%. Browny orange, sparkling, foamy light brown head. Aroma is cognac, browned apple flesh, woody, little toffee apple, boozy. Body is frothy with soft to tingly carbonation. Taste is quite aggressive – very spicy and woody, boozy, cognac. OK stuff. Would maybe be better given some air for a while. (7-4-6-3-15=3.5)

T42 Christmas Bottleshare. Hazy deep amber beer, good pale cream colour head. Airy palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Light and sweetish esters, trace of wood. Mellow sweet cognac. Light dried fruits. Fluffy finish. A tad sweet but quite pleasant.

Bottle split at the L42 Xmas Boost Up '17, thanks to Kenny, 18/12/17. Hazed chestnut brown with a decent beige covering. Nose is light funk, brown bread, pear drop, dried fruits, cognac, toffee. Taste comprises figs, dates, fruit loaf, toffee, spice, oak, barrel, vanilla. Full body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced boost. Decent fayre ... good balance ... not to sweet or boozy.

Juks (1199) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - NOV 20, 2017
750ml bottle. Pours cloudy reddish brown, beige head stays. Aroma is tich, nutty, malty, toffee. Taste is bit woody, tannin, some alcoholy. Finish is warming, malty, some cognac? Full bodied, average carbo. Bice brew, but more aging sounds good here.

750mL corked & caged bottle @ Noble Hops, Sydney Deep bronze pour, holds a dense beige head. Aroma distinctly spicy - vanilla, wood/oak, toast reasonably dominant, accompanied by that distinct Chimay peppery, nutmeg sort phenolic character with layers of brown sugars & plums. Seems slightly thinner than the normal Bleu despite the abv - still creamy, syrup, luscious, filling. Those fruits comes through on the palate more - plums, raisins, currants, accompanied by lovely Cognac-like toast & vanilla, long finish, boozy warmth. Delightful - sort of wish I had an original to compare it against at the time.

Bruine kleur met een goede kraag. Ruikt vol zoetig, vanille. Smaakt vol zoetig, vanille.
