DraftDodger (1948) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAR 17, 2018
Copenhagen 17/3 2018. 75 cl bottle from Føtex. Fine bottle with print on it and some information about the three fermentations in all kinds of barrels and tanks that the beer has been submitted to. Pours slightly hazy dark brown with orange hue. Off-white bubbly head. Settles as thin layer of creamy foam barely covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing. Aroma is pleasant and intensely woody. Wood, sherry, caramel, bitter chocolate and moist rotting leaves. Strong carbonation and medium thick and oily texture. Flavor is medium sweet followed by rather light bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with an alcoholic burn. Lingers for a very long and nice time. A very nice Belgian Barrel Aged piece of Beer. You can taste it carries a pnch - but it does it with style.

750 ml bottle shared by Sander, thanks!
Dark copper to brown body, with a big, fluffy, beige head.
Aroma of sweet barrel, dried fruits, nuts, toffee, some honey, subtle cognac, slight smoke.
Tastes quite similar, with more cognac barrel, booze.
Medium, a bit creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes medium sweet, moderate boozy, wooden, a bit astringent, with cognac, dark fruits, honey, some toffee.

Very nice. Overall a bit simple, while smooth to drink, with the cognac barrel well integrated.

December 2017 - Tasting at One Canada Square. Bottle shared with big thanks to Kenny. As 'Chimay Grande Réserve Vieillie En Barriques (2016/3)', 10.5%. Browny orange, sparkling, foamy light brown head. Aroma is cognac, browned apple flesh, woody, little toffee apple, boozy. Body is frothy with soft to tingly carbonation. Taste is quite aggressive – very spicy and woody, boozy, cognac. OK stuff. Would maybe be better given some air for a while. (7-4-6-3-15=3.5)
