Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

UPDATED: APR 19, 2018 Robe brune foncé, mousse tirant vers le beige. Arômes de raisins secs, prune cuite. Saveurs de caramel, fruits rouges. Pas renversante mais parfaitement maîtrisée.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2018 An excellent Belgian beer from the Chimay stable. Nice to have a 7% option where most of the Belgian beers kick off at 8%. Great appearance and taste - but personally prefer the Blue. Might have been spoilt by the bloody awful meal I had with it !

How interesting to add a 3740th rate of a beer I knew from decades ago... Bottle pours hazy brown with beige head, lasting very well. Aroma roast malt, dark fruit, candy sugar, but also iron. Taste very fruity, red and dark fruits, raisin, fig, bit yeasty. Strong carbo. The dark fruits is the distinguishing element of this trappist beer.

Nothing is overbearing...yet it still seems to pack a punch...and not taste at all like 7%. For many Belgian beers the booziness is a virtue but I like how it’s masked here. Maltiness and sweetness in the (mild) aroma, fizz dies fast. Doesn’t look great (what not-very-fizzy brown ale does?) but tastes lush. Delicate chewiness after the sweetness fades. Great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This may not be the best review, as I only tried this once about a year ago while camping. My buddy brought a bottle of the red and one of the blue so he opened one each night. He opened the red first I believe, but I remember liking the blue a little better....probably because of the style. Abbey doubles may be the style that I have tried the least amount of samples, but this one could have been the best of this style I had. Lots of flavor, good balance of malt and hops, very nice appearance. It's expensive beer, and with so many on my wish list, not sure if I'll get a chance to buy this soon for a thourough review. Hopefully it won't be TOO long b/c it really is a good brew. Probably a bit overpriced though.

Smeđa boja, mutno, sa debelom bijelo-smedjom pjenom, veoma trajnom. Arome kvasca, sušenog voća, voća, grozdjica, blago karamela i alkohola. Srednje gorčine, blago slatko, sa duzim gorkim finišom. Jake karbonizacije, uljane teksture.
