COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Amber brown color with an off-white head that remains. A yeasty, malty nose. Mix of hazelnut, floral perfume and a hint vanilla. Malty and yeasty with caramel final. Strong alcohol % that you don’t taste. Very nicely done. Ok it’s a Chimay. Do I want to be a monk? Well...

Beer with taste and remarkable. THE brown Ale Chimay is one of the very traditional Trappist beers makers. Everyone has to try ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bouteille 75cl, V&B Grenoble.

Bottle at home. Pours clear, dark ruby with frothy white foam. Aromas of yeast, fruit, light caramel. Spicy and quite dry. Slightly acidic, with lively carbonation. Sweet and ok hoppy. Good.

The foam is porous. Colour dark ruby, like a strong tea. In aroma and taste pleasant of yeast, fruits, something of dried apricots and a little hop. Not as cool as the bleue, but is still very decent.

330ml. bottle in The Beer House, Vientiane, Laos. Pours a cloudy copper colour. Aroma of fruit, yeast and hops. Slightly acidic. Spicy and fairly well carbonated. A bitter finish but the balanced flavours make this an excellent brew.

Pours hazy, brown colour with small, beige head. Aroma is fruity, plums, caramel, spicy. Really pleasant. Taste is malty, especially caramel, then some fruity notes. Low bitterness, medium body. High carbonation. Balanced taste, which is neither too dry, nor too sweet. Some light alcohol in the end. I’m really impressed how Abbey Dubbels are tasteful and complex.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2017 Pours a lovely hazed brown topped by a fluffy off-white head. Smells of sweet clove and honey and maybe a touch of banana. Taste starts out surprisingly dry, the Hallertaus offsetting the Belgian sweetness with a medicinal undertone. Fruits show up as it warms, giving up fig and dried apricot and honey-slathered toast, yet the pilsner malts maintain a firm bottom line. Hefeweisen bananaclove eventually pops up, and the finish seems both too bitter and too sweet. Not my favorite Trappist ale, but drinkable.
