COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

750 mL bottle, "Best Before End 2009." Age or enjoy now? The may be not the right point to be considered cellared or new, but it may be my last big beer before vacation. I forget sometimes how deceptively light and golden the Belgian dubbel-tripel-quads are. Big rocky head. Beer is cloudy with visible floaty bits, which I never thought to see in a Tappist-based Belgian. Smell from the bottle is surprisingly grainy, just a whiff of hops. Grainy smell in my IPA tulip glass, too. A peak of foam sits about an inch above the rim like root beer float foam. Foam tastes a bit like an all-grain homebrewed IPA. Finally I can get down to the beer, and find the nice big, golden barleys of a true tripel. Hops are still present, but not to the level of a big American Pale Ale. Guess when this is around two years old, the hop sensation has migrated to the foam. Malt is light and smooth, but does carry the impression of alcohol that warns you to settle and don’t drink too much at once.

Absolutely a killer! Both in taste and in silently creating a hangover. Great.

Bottle. Pale yellow with a great head and lots of lacing. Aroma of hops, oranges and grapefruits. Some yeast. Taste is fruity (oranges, lemons, grapefruits and a hint of apples), floral hoppy and dry. A little bit grassy and spicy. Malts and sugar in the background. Medium carbonation. Crisp. Dry and bitter finish. Alcohol definitely makes its presence known but it’s welcome. Very balanced and dangerously drinkable. Lovely.

Surely one of the most drinkable beers in the world - and certainly the best from the Chouffe range. Best drunk chilled from the fridge to get the sharper pineapple, mandarin and lemon flavours, which given a bit of time and temperature develop into mango, honey, big malt, candy sugar and apple custard. Very effervescent on opening and will almost always through up a heft of hops residue and yest, so pour carefully. It ends with a wonderfully juicy mouthful of green hops and Belgian malts and yeasts - what a fitting and wonderful combination. It’s really an "again" beer - as in when you’ve finished it you call out "AGAIN!"

Pours beautifully, golden with a foamy white head. Aromas of green apples, and taste reminiscent of cava. Very crisp. Amazingly good for a Belgian IPA.

Bottle pours clear golden with a white head. Hoppy, floral aroma with citrus; little malty. Taste accordingly, medium bitterness, citrus/grapefruit, spices, little sweetness. Nice beer, but not totally convinced of the balance.
