A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

May 2009: Green 75cl bottle poured into a huge Tripel Karmeliet glass and two kasteel glasses. Hazy golden amber body with large white head which stayed the distance, the last glass poured was cloudier and meaner looking taking all the sediment within. The aroma was Grapefruit, Lemon and Hoppy. The taste was sharp, tart and crispy. The hops and a grapefruit flavour took the taste stakes. The alcohol is well hidden and the hops take over the citrus flavours as the beer warms in the glass. I got this at the brewery, I believe it is brewed for the USA market and unavailable in Europe apart from the brewery? The beer seemed to get drier as the tasting progessed and the final (third pour) glass was a lot more hoppy than the first two, so the sediment must be heavy in the hop department.

330ml bottle shared with friends at the craft beer shop. Pours slightly cloudy, at least towards the bottom of the bottle, A dirty pale honey in colour. A thin part frothy, part foamy head, heavy lacing but no bead. Aromas of banana, citrus, cereal, but no malt. In the mouth, quite fizzy at first, with a strong alcohol feel, mouth filling, with some cereal, malt and citrus flavours, and a malty aftertaste. Overall, an unusual strong malty IPA.

12/7/17: 8 ounce pour into snifter at Monk's Pub. Very light golden pour. Lemon hops aroma. Light lemon and hops taste, light bitterness, good balance. Thin mouth feel, overall good offering.

Pours a hazy straw yellow color with a soapy white head. Aroma of yeast, citrus, and hint of pine. Banana, clove, and yeast flavor with a hop bite and dry finish. Very nice.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2017 Lekkere tripel, geen uitgesproken hopsmaak. Wel goed te drinken en toegankelijk.

Bottle. I am actually truly disappointed by this. God I needed a drink after a shitty day, and thus sure does the job at 9%. But I noticed that despite feeling relaxed, the beer itself was not contributing to my improving mood. There is no aroma, no taste, no appearance or finish to speak off. What have they done to the chouffe?! A beautiful beer mutilated. Tastes like a strong lager and the hops are not there enough. shameeeeeeeee x100 (game of thrones style)

Bottle in the Beer Cave in Valetta. So strong it´s hard to concentrate on the aroma. The alcohol is not agressive, it´s fittingly packed in a complex package of hops and malts. Still the beer reminds of a bitter root extract, with some hop aromas mixed in. Too strong for me to really enjoy.

2017.08.22: Tasteful IPA with moderate bitterness. Beautiful appearance. Good!
