An average bock beer. Color is a copper brown. Poured with a medium head that disappeared some what quickly. Slight haze. Smell of sweet malt with some apple and faint alcohol. Flavor is also a semi thick malt with apple, caramel, slight vanilla and a bit of alcohol. Mild hoppiness. Overall it's an average bock, not bad but not great either - it's kind of in limbo. This was my first bock beer from Christian Moerlein. My impression of this beer is that it's rather thick, sweet and heavy on the
palate. It has a very sweet smell to it, along with a background scent of spices for some reason. It was cloying and coated my
tongue like cough syrup. Since it was so sweet, it was hard for me to tell if it had any hops bitterness to it. It did have a certain
tang to it at the finish, but nothing to write home about. I might try it again, but until then, I'll try some different bocks. urbnhautebourg (997) - Annapolis, Maryland, USA - MAR 14, 2003
Good heavens, quite a bit of malt here, nearly double bock amounts. Tremendous malt nose and remarkable clarity, but a rather shy head. The malt develops nicely and shows complexity, but a bit more dryness or hop bitterness would be welcome. Not bad at all, really. Slick (1969) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - MAR 1, 2003
Nice head somewhat long lasting almost 20 seconds lol but thats cool, aroma was definately sweet and malty malty being an under statement malty as hell would fit much better flavor is sweet malty with just some slight very slight hoppiness to it with a slightly sweet malty aftertaste in my opinion this is a little weak but a very well balanced bock that deserves another try to make sure i'm not just typing this with to much of a buzz going. raymow (1787) - Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 17, 2003
Like everyone else said - Not as dark as the photo, but it's pretty good. It has a sweet (but not too sweet), nutty, chocolatey flavor. Almost like a Nut-brown, but not quite. Overall, very nice. I'd definitely buy this again.

major bock fan - but this doesn't quite do it for me. lighter than is in the picture. too sweat - but it does have the lager smoothness. not bad. gerdy555 (163) - Ohio, USA - AUG 31, 2002
UPDATED: NOV 4, 2003 i decided to re-rate this one because i know much more about beer now than i did then. pours a nice redish brown color with a off white head that doesn't last. aroma is malty and a little nutty, with a little bit of sour fruit. malt flavor obviously dominates with a nutty slightly bitter flavor. body is a little thin for a bock but still pretty good. this is a great example of what cincinati beer used to be. I wish it was still made here, but with all the problems that Hudepohl-Schoenling and now Snyder beverage have been having i'm just glad that its still being made. tbookman (618) - Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 25, 2002
Somewhat cloudy with a lightly sweet aroma. Not as dark as in the photo here. Very nice heary flavor though. A great tasting bock. Beer Guy99 (251) - Maineville, Ohio, USA - NOV 5, 2001
Rich, hearty bock beer. Sweet and a little winey in flavor - you can definitely taste the alcohol. I enjoy it but it's lighter than the draft version used to be and not quite as malty and rich either. Still a very enjoyable bock. I'd recommend it to those who love a good bock beer. Didn't like this one too much; maybe I got a bad bottle? I found it to be a little sticky, kinda smoky, and a little cloying. Thought it also had a somewhat disturbing, 'medicinal' quality. Seemed not very well-rounded also, yet still drinkable.
