A classic Munich-helles style lager with the emphasis on complex malt flavors and low hop character - in accordance with the style. Brewed with 2-row pale and Caramel 60 malts and Saaz and Hallertau hops. This was the first American beer to certifiably pass the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot Purity Law of 1516.

Your pretty standard lager. Slight malt hops in nose and mouth. Nothing special here. Rated 3/20/03

Smells like a lager. Light malt with a grassy note. White head that disipated rapidly. Something of an amber color. Medium mouthfeel. Malty. Not much hop, but enough to balance the finish. Ends dry, and the hop and malt compete.

Bottle. Medium dark amber color with medium white head. Complex malt aroma and flavor with good finish. Very drinkable brew.

Dogbrick (13389) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 19, 2003
This beer is a lightly murky amber color with a thin beige head. Thin lacing. The aroma is lightly malty and fruity. Medium-bodied and very smooth with malt and hops in equal quantities. The finish is very clean and a little sweet. Better than I was expecting.

(Bottle) Pours a light amber color with a small white head. Descent tasting Helles sytel brew from Cincy.

This is a nice balanced beer for those looking for an American beer that approaches the quality to German beers. It has a nice balanced taste - noted hops flavour but not too bitter. Seems to have lost some of its uniqueness over the past decade but that may just be due to the experience of my palate. Still a good choice that keeps the Cincinnati brewing tradition alive.

hopscotch (11170) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - SEP 30, 2005
Bottle... Clear, golden lager with a large, frothy, off-white head. Very good retention. Malty, peppery nose with notes of honey and white bread. Decently balanced flavor, but a touch on the bitter side. Medium-bodied and astringent with moderate carbonation. Finishes medium bitter and very dry.

Dark straw colored with aroma of hopcit, some florals, and some honeyish sweetness. Tastes of pale malt, with some hopcit and a smooth finish. Not bad.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark golden/light amber color with a smaller white head. The aroma is mildly sweet malt with a hint of floral hops. The flavor is mostly caramel malts, bread, and the slightest amount of hops present. Decent, but not something I would revisit often.
