COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As the Pilsner beer spread through Germany in the late 1800’s the Darker beers were fading in popularity but in Munich they were still king. Eventually Munich’s response to the foreign pilsner was the “Helles” Lager. Lighter in color, with less hop flavor and bitterness than the Pilsner. A well developed bready flavor was the main highlight of the Helles. Today the Helles beer is the everyday drinking beer in Germany. It’s malty, balanced, easy-drinking character has earned it the sobriquet “liquid bread”, and it is often served for breakfast. Helles retains less alcohol than a Pilsner, averaging between 4.5-5 percent; they are more full bodied, than thin.

(En fût à Machine House Brewing): Éclatant de céréales et de son agrume acolyte. C'est granuleux sans bon sens. Et frais. Et floral. Et frais. Et engouffrable à un rythme incessant.

Tap at Komachi. Smooth grassy nose, some citrus. Clear medium straw color. Sourish, grassy initial, a touch grainy. Thin body. Clean and well-made stuff, but perhaps too mild mannered and lacking in character.

Tap at Komachi. Malty, biscuty nose. Light lemony hops. Biscuit and cracker malt flavor, light hops. Light and crisp. A decent helles but lacks depth when compared with the best.

Chuckanut Helles 5% is a brilliantly clear gold. The aroma is bready malts with spicy noble hoppiness. Light bodied, earthy and fruity this is a classic Helles with a super dry finish. If you want something satisfying that you don’t need to think about too much this’ll do the trick.

Draft at Toronado after dehydrating myself playing basketball with beastie. Just read after4ever’s review which is a good read -- don’t agree with all of it, but it made me laugh regardless. If you’re reading this, pause now to read his because it be good. Anyway ... clear pale gold pour, nice head, good retention. Toasted cereal, bready, and easy drinking. That’s kinda about it. Refreshing as hell(es), I would drink this by the liter if there was a keg at a BBQ or something. Crisp, well-crafted. Nothing shabby about this. Nothing sexy about it, either, unless you find a well-made lager with no frills to be sexy. And I’m not going to judge, I’m not immune to the charms of this Sarah plain and tall. Overall: simple delicious crushable beer.
