Aroma: Light soy sauce, strong cocoa, bourbon barrel notes (wood, vanilla, coconut) and noble alcohol, molasses, very intensive. Appearance: Looks nice, I guess. Taste: Sweet, full, sticking to the mouth, roasted on the finish. Palate: Very long semi-dry finish, low carbonation, full body.

December 2017 - Tasting at One Canada Square. Bottle shared with big thanks to Dave. As 'Churchill's Finest Hour', 13.5%, purple wax, brewed by Lost Abbey. Pours an opaque black with a foamy brown head. Aroma is vanilla, 'meaty' bourbon, damp wood, on-the-turn dried fruits. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is big meaty sugars, molasses, vanilla bourbon, big and sweet throughout, spicy boozy finish. Essentially a carbon copy of a lot of highly rated American stouts. You've seen it before. Sweet 'meaty' bourbon and maybe lacking balance. My score might be a touch too kind but it does have a big flavour. (7-4-8-4-16=3.9)

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Dave for sourcing. Pours oily brown-black with a frothy, tan head. A little age on the snout, moderate roast, cocoa, dried berries. Medium to big sweet flavour with lots of rounded berries, cocoa, light roast, burnt toffee, toasted marshmallow. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish with some woody dryness, more dried berries, torched marshmallows, raisins, baking cocoa. Great stuff overall. Perhaps a little aggressive, but the depth is nice.
