UPDATED: SEP 5, 2015 650ml bottle @ Churchill’s Pub & Grille, San Marcos, CA

2015 vintage, red wax. 5000th rating! - Pours pitch black with a smooth head. Complex aroma of roasty malts, vinous notes, oak, wood, berries, toffee, syrup, vanilla, coffee, brandy and red wine. Taste is heavy, complex and very vinous with some oak, toffee, syrup, berries, vanilla, red berries, coffee and dark chocolate. Finish is sweetish, heavy and complex with loads of flavors. Very complex slow sipper with loads of different layers. Awesome.

650 ml bottle (2015 vintage) @ Churchill’s Pub & Grille, San Marcos, CA. Pours a black colour with a beige head. Aroma of dark berries, some cherry tartness, bourbon, wood and chocolate. Flavour of heavy rich dark roastiness, wood, bourbon, red wine, sweet syrupy maltiness, sherry, bread and chocolate. Full bodied. Oily and very thick. Alcohol warms. Aging would improve this I think.

65 cl bottle vintage 2015 (red vax, 14%) @ Churchill?s Pub & Grille, San Marcos. Aroma has sweet liquor tones, licorice, brandy and some bourbon. Flavour has licorice, porto, red wine, some bourbon and vanilla. Slightly fizzy palate. Porto takes over the flavour bouquet after some sips. Too sweet for me.

65 cl bottle (2015 version, red wax) @ Churchill?s Pub & Grille, San Marcos.
Pours black color with a small beige head. Chocolate and dark roasted malts on the nose, some dark berry notes on the background, faint vanilla and coffee too. Smooth creamy palate, mild red wine, faint bourbon comes out as vanilla, chocolaty flavor, somewhat spicy, distant honey notes, dark roasted malts and mild hints of sweet Madeira. Some woody tanginess on the back of the throat. Alcohol is well hidden, subtle warmth at the end. Heavy, complex and quite tasty. Excellent.

2014 vintage. Overpowering tobacco up front, which yields to boozy chocolate. Really nice mouthfeel.

Shared 2014 batch bottle with a friend. Poured a pitch Black colour with a slight non lasting caramel coloured head on top. Nose is a lot of bourbon forward. Darkest roasted chocolate, fudge, and vanilla Cream on top. Brownies, but just a ton of sticky sweet bourbon. Taste follows the nose, lots of bourbon forward. And because of that it’s still a little bit hot in the finish. The mouthfeel is not as thick as i would have expected. Just a delicious sticky bourbon stout.

Bottled. Pours pitch black with a tiny tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and licorice notes. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry with a hint of malt bitterness. Medium to full bodied, oily texture and flat to soft carbonation. A great Impy. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was from a bottle while on the bus at the RBSG. It poured jet black with a tan head. My notes indicate is smelled like toasted chocolate malts, some vanilla and coffee. Very full body and dense oily mouth feel. Flavor is decadent with coffee, ripe fruit, chocolate and vanilla. Hides the alcohol well. Really really good. I loved this one.

Bottle, shared on the RBSG bus. I thought the wax on this was black, but looking at the description here, it must have been dark brown. Near black, viscous pour with a lazy dense brown head. Rich roasty aroma, chocolate and vanilla too. Extremely full bodies, loads of roast, chocolate liqueur, vanilla, coffee undertones, nice fruity acidity prevents it from weighing the palate down too much. So smooth and rich. Really excellent.
