Bottle at RBWG GT. Poured a pitch black body with lighter dark brown edges under a foamy beige head. Aroma of wood and varnish. Medium bodied with lighter carbonation and an average duration on the aftertaste. Flavor of varnish covered wood, dark toast. Meh did not like this one. deyholla (11481) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 21, 2014
Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours near black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of roasted malts and dark grains with a bit of a earthy smoke note underlying. Flavor is similar with dark grains and backing notes of roast, earthiness and light smoke. zgaier (1951) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - FEB 19, 2014
Pours black with a brown head and ashy, burnt, liquorice aroma. Taste is sweet, nice wood notes along with strong burnt ash, fruit, oak, and light smoke with a short finish. Nice brew, great for the style jjgmd (2146) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - FEB 19, 2014
Bomber. Pours a dark black color with a tight java head. Nose is smokey and ashy, and not pleasant. Taste is woody and ashy, and taste like spoiled cheese. Not for me, and I do like Schwarzbiers. After reading the other reviews I fail to realize what I am missing. Stinky Cheese !! Quaff Score 4 /. 10 ( lowest rating ever on one of my favorite breweries )

Serve this just under room temp for best results. When it is cold it is overwhelming, not in a good way. Beautiful look and nice mouth feel. Brew sweetens as it warms and the charred, fake smoke flavor is balanced. SpringsLicker (3612) - Tennessee, USA - FEB 16, 2014
2014 RBWG Grand Tasting.
Black body with a thin off-white head.
Black roast malt, piney hop aroma.
The flavor has bitter hops on the front, burnt roast malts on the back.
Spritzy, hoppy. JHeath99 (1678) - Warner Robins, Georgia, USA - FEB 14, 2014
Tap from Lazy Dog. Pours a dark opaque black with a layer of tan head. Aroma of smoke. Taste of burnt malts. Gachupines (1252) - USA - FEB 12, 2014
Black with a thick tan head. Aroma is woody with a touch of oak and general burnt wood. A little bit of roasted malt is noticeable. Flavor is very woody with a little bit of vanilla. Roasted malt, but a clean finish. Heavy up front, but surprisingly light aftertaste.
