Tasting at Bruce’s Pad. Big thanks to Paul for saving me a nice nip of this. Opaque black-brown beer, no real head. Viscous palate with a little fine carbonation. Smooth sweet dark malts. Vanilla and a touch of cherry and tangy red berry fruits. There is a vague sense of Neopolitan Ice Cream here! Touch of brandy and brandy spice. Finishes smooth. Sweet and tasty.
Bottle shared at The Kernel - London. Massive thanks to Paul for lugging this over from America. This guy is an absolute hero. The beer pours oily black with a creamy, brown head. The aroma is loaded with luscious, lightly tangy cherries and thick chocolate. Big sweet flavor with gooey chocolate, some chocolate syrup, hints of brownies, further cherries, mild alcohol. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly chewy. Finishes with modest warmth, rich chocolate sauce, ripe cherries, chocolate cake. Indulgent and decadent yet still well balanced. Great beer. Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Viktoriagade
Pitch black color with small collar of brown foam. Strong aroma, roasted malt, chocolate, light cocoa, ancho chilies, overripe banana; unfortunately also some cardboard and liquorice limit the elegance. Full bodied, the mouthfeel is round and lightly oily; chocolate and roasted malt flavor, not ashy, rather sweet; it has a light fruity touch (stewed cherries) and the relative light acidity; the alcohol is warming, but with this sugars it’s masked and doesn’t become boozy.
Good. But it’s just an American example of lack of style an elegance, just a mix of everything.
Mikkeller has reduced the glass size and increased the price. 80kr (15$) for 20cl. I will just visit the bar less and less often…
