A collaborative beer produced by Terrapin Beer Co. and Cigar City Brewing, two innovative breweries in the deep South. We decided to make a beer that will bring to mind a Southern staple, pecan pie. Pecans were first introduced to colonists by the Algonquin Indians. They referred to the nut as pakan or paccan, which means "a nut so hard that is ha to be cracked with a stone." The two breweries agreed that a malty, dark lager would be a great canvas for such a Southern tradition, graciously slathering heaps of Munich malt and other specialty grains to emulate a portrait of Southern hospitality, the likes of which could conquer any sweet tooth.

And just a reminder, its pronounced puh-CON, not PEE-can!

Super rich, deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall light brown head and the body is about 75% opaque. Aroma of pecans (duh), figs, roasted malt, caramel, prunes, raisins, toast, cherries and a good oak and vanilla note as well. Full-bodied; Super rich flavour of pit fruits and nuts coupled with some alcohol, oak and whiskey taste as well. Aftertaste is just as rich with a heavy body and a nutty yet very smooth and sweet flavour that dominates. Overall, a very nice beer for someone who doesnt like nut browns much, but as this is classified as a doppelbock, which I do agree with, this is a class beer, as I expected after seeing the label on the front, but even without that text of who made the beer, this one is just plain good. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Luekens Liqour in Dunedin, Florida on 01-January-2014 for US$13,95 sampled at home in Washington on 17-August-2014 and would recommend it to anyone who can find it!

Bottle courtesy of Ray. Pours deep brow with thin tan head. Notes of molasses, brown sugar, molasses, pecan, molasses. Sweet and molassesy. Very molassesy. This should be called black strap-on

Sickeningly sweet pecan pie crust and filling, basically nothing else going on, just tastes a lot like liquified pie which is way too sweet even if this was a milkshake and not a beer.

750ml bottle pours a hazy brown with some thin, off white head. Nose is like sweet potato pie, root veg, starchy, vanilla, caramel, mild spice. Flavor has a lot of faux vanilla, sweet potato flesh, caramel, clove, brown sugar, some malt. Sweet, vanilla finish.

Bottle to 7venth sun glass. Deep chocolate brown with nice solid tan looking crust of head. Smells like pecans pie topped with vanilla icecream. Nutty maple syrup notes. Sweet nutty full bodied beer. Heavy dessert beer for sure. Makes me want icecream to go with it.

750 ml bottle poured into a Belgian snifter. Pours dark ruby/brown with a finger of light tan head. No lacing. Aromas of caramel, pecans, molasses, vanilla, light booze. Tasting notes of sweet malt, pecans, caramel, molasses, some alcohol on the backend. Medium-light body with a dry and warm finish. Medium carbonation, light syrupy mouthfeel. Never had a flavored doppelbock before so it was a bit strange at first but kind of grew on me as I sipped on it.

Shared bottle with Timfoolery. If you like Pecan pie this is the beer for you. I love pecan pie, thus the high rating. Lots of SMG.

Opaque dark deep brown with a thin light khaki foamy head. The nose is subtle but very nice with vanilla nuttiness and a bit of vanilla bean ice cream with a dose of milk chocolate. The flavor is sublime with a deep complexity with nutty pecans, earthy caramel, loads of vanilla bean ice cream, and some chocolate nougat. Wodnerful and fun.
