750ml bottle pours out a dark amber topped with a sand head. Nose is sweet caramel malt toffee some booze wood and pit fruit. Taste is as the nose with lots of layers of malts going on hear sweetness and a little vanilla.

750 mL bottled poured into a pint glass. Originally reviewed 6/2/2011. Deep mahogany body with an ample creamy off-white head. Sticky as hell. Clings to the glass as I drink it. Smells of floral hops and a LOT of malt. Smells sweet, very sweet, but good. Strong caramel malts and some toasty aromas behind it. Taste kinda falls flat. Hops to start, but it’s totally dominated by the sweetness. Just loads of residual sugars in this. Behind the caramel and sugar is a somewhat odd burnt toast bitterness that doesn’t really balance the sweetness as it comes too late in the drink. Ok, so the taste is average, but it’s so thick that I have trouble putting it away without thinking of the scene from Super Troopers when they chug maple syrup. As a result, there’s no level of carbonation that can make this feel like an easy-to-drink amber ale. Just too sweet for me. If this year’s batch is attenuated more than last year’s, I can’t imagine how thick Batch 3 must have been.

750ml bottle pours dark brown with light red edges and 2 finger head. Nose and palate have some nice sweet caramel, burnt toffee, malty, light grape and fig, maple, raisin, oatmeal cookie, boozy, here is also a slight cola twang (hint of tartness?) and a thinness in the late palate that troubles me somewhat and keeps me from truly loving this. Starts out great but finishes a bit short. Wasn’t crazy about emptying a whole 750 solo after the first glass.

Bottle shared with buddies in FL in 12/13. Tasting noted. Pours a deep brown in a snifter at home. Small head. Big aroma of malts with caramel, toffee, roasted malts, nuts, sweet ripe fruits. The taste was very heavy malts, caramel, bitter cocoa nibs, toffee, vanilla, and BOOZE. Big body, chewy and oily. Kind of hot still. Seemed a little unbalanced and sweet.

From the bottle, there was deeper Amber color with.... Why does the new iPhone always capitalize Amber? Anyway, this had a deeper color with a predominant malt aroma. I think the hop aromas have mellowed since I had this first. Either way, the malt was quite strong in comparison to what I remember. Also, I’ve been drinking and I think they’re all staring at me.

750ml bottle I got in a trade in 2011 from Doodler. Been saving this for a good tasting. Shared it at RBSG in Portland at the hotel after the grand tasting
Clear dark brown with a medium sized beige head, good lacing. Aroma of caramel, woody and brown sugar. Taste of caramel, brown sugar and oak
Nice

For some reason this bottle barely got touched at the RBSG Grand tasting so it went home with me and I had it at dinner last night. I do not know who brought it but thanks. Poured a dark brown with a tan head. Nose of caramel malts and dark fruit. Medium plus body. Smooth mouthfeel. Flavor shows dark fruit and raisins and the finish is bitter sweet. Bottle - Strong caramel malts, candy sugars and raisin. Cloudy dark brown with a rich beige head. Caramel malts, sweetness, raisin and a sweet bitter finish. Tasty.

Bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out oxidation and caramel. Flavour brings out dark fruits, light wood, and oxidation. Balanced reasonably but not overly cohesive. Decent.

Bottle at catch 22 bottle share! Pours a hazy copper with minimal head or lacing at this point. Aroma of big sweet caramel malts and dark fruit with earth tones. Taste follows, sweet and boozy, definitely a barley wine at this point. Held up pretty well.
