Chocolate Porter. This beer is for times when a lot plus a bit more is called for. Death by chocolate is a term that comes to mind.

22 oz bottle. Dark brown with edgy bubbles. Nose is molasses, cocoa, raisin and prune. Medium body with a tingle. Taste is molasses, bittersweet chocolate, espresso, elderberry and fig finishing a bit earthy. Bold porter with a chocolate kiss.

From notes. Enjoyed at a tasting at Jake’s house on May 20. 22 oz bottle. The pour is a darker brown color with a thicker and frothy light tan head that stays pretty well with a couple spots of strong lace. The aroma is full of chocolate. There is a light booziness to it, but it balances out pretty well. I’m getting a bitter roast and maybe just a hint of dark fruits. The flavor is just as good. There is a strong chocolate and a light roast that’s backed up well by a nice fruitiness and a hint of booze. There is a little woodiness and I’m getting a tough of oxidization as well. The mouth feel is a little light with a softer carbonation and a lingeringly sweet and savory chocolate finish. This is almost like an alcoholic cupcake. Not too bad.

September 19, 2015 - at Beaverton for the Rainbow event - draught. Extremely deep brown pour with an oily lasting light brown head. Deep, deep chocolate / roast malt aroma, alcohol, and oddly but appealingly burnt hickory smoked bacon as well with some maple sweetness; really made me think it was aged in some sweet rye whisky barrels. Taste is lighter than the aroma - chocolate with prune and, oddly, grappa - hides its ABV sinfully well - good stuff. Slightly light body, slick, light carbonation, roast, tartness and alcohol emerging in the finish - pretty complex stuff.

Cellared bomber bottle poured dark cola brown with a small tan head and small oily lacing. Aromas of rich chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, and coffee. Flavor is silky dark chocolate bitter with mild booze. Tasty.

Pours a nearly pitch black in color and topped by a small layer of tan colored foam that quickly recedes and leaves streaks of lace on the glass. The aroma shows notes of dark chocolate, dark fruit, dark malts and a healthy dose of booze and oxidation. The flavor follows with the dark chocolate, fruit, and dark malts followed by some roast, oxidation and a boozy finish. Nearly full bodied and smooth with subtle carbonation that leads to a lengthy dark cocoa and booze finish. Drinks fairly easy for such a big beer, but it seems the bottle hasn’t held up well as the cocoa nibs are more in the background now. Glad I tried it and I’m sure would have been much better fresh.

Sampled during RBWG Tampa 2015. Thanks to whoever shared this. Deep brown pour with a small tan head. Nose is lots of charred, roasted grain earthiness. Some cocoa. Sweeter flavor. Dark chocolate. A bit boozy. A bit of earthy, shaggy hoppiness. Full body, medium carb. Solid.

Bomber to snifter, shared at today’s SP release at Perennial (thanks burg326). The bottle says it’s 10% abv, not 12%. Looks good; a slightly translucent dark cola with beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of dark malt, chocolate, oak, and bourbon. Tastes like it smells with a fairly bitter medium-full to full-bodied mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

22 ounce shared bottle. Pours almost black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, malt, and coffee. Taste is chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and dark fruit. Good, but just missing something.

Sample brewery 12/27/14-Pours black with a small ring for a head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and dark fruits. Taste of the same. This full bodied brew is well balanced and goes down smooth.

22 oz bottle via trade shared with the group. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have dark fruits, cherry, dark chocolate, molasses, some oxidation, but doesn’t distract, still a touch of booze, earth, good, but could have been better.
