Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours mostly clear and dark brown with burnt-orange highlights and a small, creamy, off-white head. The lush aroma presents a heavy dose of bourbon and chocolate crème, accompanied by hints of vanilla, fudge and toasted coconut. Full-bodied and sticky with gentle carbonation. The flavor furnishes a blend of lightly acidic and mildly acrid sourmash distiller’s beer, chocolate crème and bourbon without much alcohol heat. Rounds out with toasted tree nuts and fudge. Muchos kudos to darkguardian for providing this world class beer! tectactoe (3125) - Michigan, USA - SEP 4, 2014
Bottle: Thanks, Kyle. Murky, swampy, deep mocha brown body. Opaque. A very small layer of khaki colored film is quickly reduced to a measly collar. Chocolate candy aroma; think dark chocolate Toostie Rolls coated with bourbon. Notes of spicy oak, rich caramel sweetness, & a hint of dark fruit. The flavor has lots of sweet, milky chocolate as expected. I also get nice doses of maple syrup, brown sugar, & toffee. Liquid Heath bar, perhaps with a heavier hand to the chocolate element. Caramelized sugars dipped in spicy, woody bourbon in the finish with subtle, lingering notes of vanillin, sweet prunes, & toffee. A complex little bugger, luckily no apparent signs of infection (yet, anyway). Very tasty, wish this one saw a bigger release. Steve_0 (3745) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUN 21, 2014
Bottle at home with friends. Pour is deep brown with a small tan head and decent lacing. Husky, cocoa, coffee, roasted caramel, brown sugar, bread, grainy, and toffee aroma. Tasty is rich dark chocolate, coffee, burnt caramel, brown sugar, oaky, tangy, espresso, and vanilla with a rich roasted finish. Syrupy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. I don’t know if I agree that this beer is to style but it’s damn tasty. arminjewell (9584) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JUN 21, 2014
Pour out if 750 mL bottle, thanks Stephen! Dark black pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of dark fruit, vanilla, molasses, hints of dark cocoa, roast, hints of burnt sugar. Taste is a mix of dark fruit, roast, coffee, hints of chocolate, hints of vanilla, slight yeast, finishing fairly sweet. Homer321 (5007) - Melboring, Florida, USA - MAY 23, 2014
Bottle thanks to lucky clicking at the right time. Nose is full of chocolate and some booze. Minimal head deep dark brown to black. Taste is full of chocolate and some moderate fruitiness, cherry in my mind. Slightly slick. Not much alcohol boost in the mouthfeel. Pretty good. Tastes rare at least.

Bottle share thanks to homer321. Pours a dark brown almost black. Aroma of bourbon. Maybe chocolate, but very mild. Taste is chocolate, bourbon up front, almost slick on the tongue. Flavor goes away pretty quick. A bit boozy after a bit. DrewFace (967) - Melbourne, Florida, USA - MAY 23, 2014
Bottle share thanks to Homer321. Pours a murky dark brown with slight reddish tint, minimal head. Big bourbony aroma, lots of barrel character, vanilla, chocolate and lots more booze. Huge booze, tons of caramel, toffee, light roasty notes in the finish, more bourbon and vanilla. smith4498 (3640) - Winter Springs, Florida, USA - MAY 10, 2014
This was quite an interesting doppelbock. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aromas of bourbon, chocolate, toasted malts, raisins and some oak. Similar flavors, slightly boozy. Medium body with average carbonation. johnnnniee (4236) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - APR 27, 2014
Bottle from the brewery.
Pours a clear dark brown color with garnet at the edges and a good sized tan head that slowly dissipates to a ring on top. Aromas of chocolate, coconut, vanilla, brown sugar, a hint of wood, faint dark fruits, and some bourbon. If you sat this in front of my nose and told me it was a barrel aged porter I would have believed you. The flavor is sweet sugary chocolate with lots of vanilla and bourbon. Light bits of earth oak and fruit round this out. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet silky sticky mouthfeel. This is a nice beer and I really enjoyed it, but I’m still looking for the dopplebock. HonusWagner (2168) - Florida, USA - APR 7, 2014
Interesting enough take on the style, but kind of booze/bourbon dominated with less rich malty flavors than I’d like. Wouldn’t mind trying again to see if my opinion improves, but not falling over myself to do so.
