Bottle shared by Joey at Dr. Bill’s tasting. Pours with a hazed brown hue with a small off-white head. Aromas are malty, light caramel and spicy with a phenolic, clove and pepper yeast presence. Flavors are rich, malty, lightly smokey with a bit of a belgian yeast pepper and spicy note. Medium bubbles. Quite tasty. oteyj (2139) - New Hampshire, USA - OCT 3, 2011
Thanks Travlr! Black pour with an offwhite head. Pretty weird: Lactic sugars, banana, tropical esters, and roasty chalky cocoa nib. Seems to find the sweet stout style much better than scotch ale, but there you have it. Interesting, but I’m not convinced that it works here. Bottle. Nearly black, medium brown head. Aroma of weak coffee grounds. Taste is silky chocolate and bitter coffee finish. Nice. GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 26, 2011
UPDATED: OCT 3, 2011 Tap at CCB for the BA Hunahpu release. The pour is clear maroon with a thin, tan head. Vegetal off-character in nose. Taste is very odd. Cardboardy and bland with mild cherry. Weird palate hints at infection. Grape jelly perhaps? Nose is grape jelly. I hope to lord Jesus that this beer has not picked up the notorious infecting bacteria from Shorts Brewing (originally from an asteroid) known as SBC3830-X. Could be a monumental disaster. I would quickly chuck this out of the tap lines, clean everything, and pretend this beer never existed. 9/26/2011 3/3/3/2/6=1.7burg326 (5482) - Florida, USA - SEP 25, 2011
750mL thanks to Travlr. Thankfully not infected. Still not good though. Estery nose. Taste is earthy, dirty with odd tartness. Chalky, bitter palate. Roast and lemon combo. Loads of sugar and artificial banana. Just not a good beer. 10/2/2011 6/3/4/3/10=2.6
Poured a amber color with khaki head. Aroma of malt, smoke, maple. Flavors match the aromas, with a slightly smokey aftertaste. Intriguing beer...

9/24/11. On tap at BA Hunahpu. Dark brown pour with a big khaki head that sticks and laces for ages. Funky bubblegum aroma with wood, roast, anise, and more - again, kinda funky. Equally funky flavor - banana, phenolic, a bit roasty, sweet fruit, and more. Can’t say I love it. DialSquare (5029) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 19, 2011
750ml bottle from the brewery - brought up by Wilkes and Lynn. Pleasant aroma of candy sugar, wet grass, dark fruits and yeast. Tastes are sweet malt, light ashy smoke, dark fruit in the background. The earthy saison yeast comes through late. Full meaty medium texture. Covers the alcohol well - just a touch of warmth behind the scenes. Tough one to describe - tasty sipper overall. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - SEP 16, 2011
On draft at Cigar CIty. Pours a mostly dark red-brown color with a tan head. Nose is deep sweet malts, maple flavor, some smoke, earth, and I swear I get some yeast/esters. Flavor is similar with lots of malt, hints of smoke, maple, and some yeast with a bit of malt loitering around into the finish. Interesting take on the style.
