bottle shared with kegbear. Oh man this one smells like caramel and some toffee. It tastes the same with an awesome bit of chocolate cocoa as it warms it slightly mellows and the cocoa becomes a bit more pronounced. This beer is awesome! Savvy1982 (1706) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 25, 2010
Bottle, thanks to Darkguardian. Pours opaque brown/black, somewhere between an Imperial Porter and a Quad in colour. Thick pale tan head, fantastic lacing. Nose is heavy dark malt, kernel, husk, everything, a very profound maltiness, hints of Tootsie Roll, Root Beer, tobacco, leather, fudge. Flavours are mildly smoky and very chocolatey, almost like a light Imperial Stout... nice smokiness throughout, toasted marshmallow, rich fruit, tight booziness. Fuck me but I love the shit out of this. Kickass! llcooldave (1217) - San Antonio, Texas, USA - JAN 8, 2011
Acquired via trade with ericandersnavy. Dark brown in color with a fizzy caramel colored head. Gorgeous nose of fruitcake, dried fruit, dark chocolate and berries. Flavor is more of the delectable dark chocolate & berries followed by a trailing smokiness and toasty malt. Overall, wow... just amazing. I want to get my grubby little hands on some more! mitchgt (65) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - JAN 8, 2011
no 51. big brown pour lacey head. Smells’ like you’d expect, bubblegum beer super nice. Super nice mouth feel. Another one to be re-reviewed. 48FanInCali (851) - California, USA - APR 11, 2011
Yummy. Poured scotch ale brown with a decent head. Nose was musty peet with sweet toffee. Taste was very sweet with toffee and a ton of roasted malt. We had this side by side with the BA version and I found this more enjoyable. This is the second side by side in a row with a big scotch ale and it’s BA sister in which the non-BA version stole the show.

Very dark and viscous looking pour with a thin medium tan head. Looks the part of a porter. Very sweet and fruity aroma. A lot of dried dark fruit notes along with some berries, caramel, toffee, and even subtle hints of chocolate and leather. Flavor is very sweet, but not cloying. Underlying fruit notes are quickly displaced by roasty and coffee flavors. Rich caramel and toffee flavors interplay wonderfully. Definitely improves as it nears room temperature. Palate is thick and full, with a lingering sweetness on the finish. A little off-kilter (pun intended) for the style but extremely well-made and delicious. One of my new favorite scotch ales. Would love to try this in barrel-aged form.
FROTHINGSLOSH (7796) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 4, 2012
UPDATED: APR 3, 2012 From the 3/2012 3R6P tasting. +++Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with a small brown soapy head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was sweet nutty malts, chocolate, molasses and cherry. The flavor was sweet caramel, molasses, fig, cocoa, marshmallow, tobacco and wood. The finish was long and the body moderately thick. Excellent. jeff789 (1408) - West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 9, 2012
Deep deep deep brown seems hazy, big tan head lingers laces nicely, looks chewy... light sweetness candilike aroma, choc coffee roast toffee light smoke some licorice lots of aroma... sweetish, chocolate touch of dark fruit fig lightly smoky flavorful lightly chalky... full bodied, moderate carbonation, finishes kinda sweet.. really complex, just a touch too sweet... hman43 (1586) - Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA - APR 11, 2015
It is a dark brown with some light that gets through. It has a brown head. The aroma has toffee and coffee with cherries on the second go around. It has flavors of toffee and coffee that are combined. There are bits of cherries in the flavor as well. It is sweet, with a warming alcohol finish.
