Black Whole is a tribute to El Chupa Cobras, a math indie band from Montgomery, Alabama. This effort came about from our realization that craft beer and indie music have something in common… they both share about the same amount of their respectful markets and challenge the consumer. Wayne Wambles, our head brewer, and Kenny Johnson, the front man from El Chupa Cobras, played in indie bands together many years ago and this tribute is for all indie music fans and craft beer lovers. Black Whole is a multidimensional ale that takes many twists and turns similar to our daily lives. It has a big chocolate expression with moderate caramel notes, complex toasted to biscuit notes and hints of clove and black licorice. Don your chocolate mask and discover the meaning of life as you sip this complex, dark beer.

355 mL bottle. Stout brown. Smells like a stout. Tastes like an ASA. Resiny, citrussy hops, caramel malt. Good stuff.

Strange beer, but I really like it. I experience this mostly as an imperial stout. It’s got that sort of mouthfeel and roasty chocolate flavors. But the aroma is a little fruity and floral, and there’s just a hint of tartness. Hard to classify, but very enjoyable.

Bottle shared at the Big Friday Tasting, thanks again to LKS for showering us with yet more beer - not literally I hesitate to add, 03/01/14. Dark mahogony brown with a good sized light tan covering. Nose is light roasty notes, earthy, cocoa, toffee fudge, light spice. Taste comprises dark toffee fudge, cocoa, earthy, cake mix, dark fruit, candided sugars, dark malts. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, touch of booze in the finish. Ok drinkable affair but not too exciting and not enough depth for the ABV.

Mega Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Sri’s beau for this one. Opaque dark brown beer, big pale tan head. Palate is crisp. Caramel malt, light oxidised vibe. Light spice. Little dried fruits. Light dry finish. Was expecting more from this.

Bottle thanks to leighton at the super-massive-mega tasting. It pours near black with a thick beige head. The nose is rich roast, toast, vanilla, ash, earth and liquorice. The taste is rich roasted malt, coffee, earth, toast, aniseed, vanilla, marshmallow, Rock Road and cocoa with sweetish finish. Medium+ body and fine, prickly carbonation. Smooth, tasty and rather drinkable.

Bottle shared at the big tasting. Cheers Leighton, always love me a Cigar City. Pours black with a\not much of a head. Nose is roasty and nutty, hint of leather and liquorice. A little boring and one dimensional. Taste is caramel biscuit, nutty, liquorice. Just a little too straight forward. Leathery and ashy. Not really my kind beer

Bottle shared in London with the Crew. Picked up at the brewery. Pours clear, rich brown with a frothy beige head. The nose holds milk chocolate, burnt wood, dough, burnt marshmallows. Medium sweet flavor with dried berries, cocoa, dry fruit, slight leather, cocoa. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Fair sweetness to finish, so,e cocoa, dried dark fruits. Good stuff. Pretty drinkable.
