Bottle provided by Hopscotch. Thanks a lot! It pours pitch black with a creamy long lasting thick tan head. The aroma is light roasted with spicy notes of anise, fruit, liquorice and caramel. The flavour is spiced with strong notes of liquorice, light chocolate, dark fruit, light roast and toasted caramel. Strange and different but tasty. blutt59 (6576) - Dallas, Texas, USA - SEP 6, 2011
bottled, pours a great looking dark brown with a licorice and nuts aroma, flavor is sour bitter chocolate, first disappointing beer from them I have had dchmela (3078) - Orlando, Florida, USA - SEP 6, 2011
Bottle from the brewery. Reddish black pour with a thick tan head. Dark roasted malt, huge resiny hop nose and a touch of caramel in the aroma. Taste has lots of big dark roasted grains, big juicy citrus hops and finishes with a hint of chocolate. Real nice. brokensail (16631) - Dublin, California, USA - AUG 28, 2011
A: The beer pours a dark brown color with a rather sizable khaki head.
S: It’s very roasty on the nose with a mild metallic character. Notes of coffee and chocolate (a lot of chocolate, actually), along with some molasses. It’s surprisingly sweet.
T: The flavor is also very sweet, too sweet for me. Molasses and chocolate with a fair bit of roasted malts. It’s a touch thin/watery and that comes through on the flavor.
M: A little bit thin, especially for an 8% beer, with a medium to high carbonation.
O: Too much sweetness and a little too watery for my tastes. BeerHawk (1810) - Huntsville, Alabama, USA - AUG 27, 2011
Bottle. Poured black with a tan head that was lasting. Aromas of coffee, roast, licorice, and hints of pepper. The flavor found chocolate, caramel, and roast. Medium body, complex, nice!

Pours a dark borwn body with a tan head that leaves behind little lacing. It smells a bit roasty amd chocolatly with hints of a yeasty sour smell. It tastes bitter up front with a lightly sweet lingering aftertaste. Its a medium bodied beer witha moderate carbonation level with a long roasty finish. Overall this is quite a unique beer. It has similarities to some belgian beers and some porters and browns. One I would drink again but not seek out for the price, luckily it was a one off. djd07 (15356) - Houston, Texas, USA - AUG 26, 2011
Bottle thanks to bleeng at August tasting. Pours a dark ruby with a s creamy light tan head. The aroma is chocolate tobacco and raisin. Thin mouthfeel with a smokey flavor with clove and roast finish. A good American strong ale from Cigar City. scotchzi (302) - Florida, USA - AUG 26, 2011
Poor is opaque black with thin lightly tan head. Smell is burnt and sweet. Have you ever had slightly burnt caramel popcorn drizzled with almond butter? Well neither have i, but if I did I imagine it would taste just like this beer. Thx DROWLAND. dimenhetfield (2486) - , Florida, USA - AUG 25, 2011
On draft at Funky Buddha for Cigar City Tap Takeover. Dark color with minimal head. Aroma and flavor had hints of dark chocolate, tobacco, burnt malt, and possibly slight fudge. A little boozy but still pretty easy to handle. hopscotch (11182) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 25, 2011
Bottle… Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, frothy, beige head. Good retention. The complex bouquet offers a boatload of chocolate up front, then peripheral notes of smoke, licorice, caramel and clove. Medium-bodied with airy carbonation. The flavor is of chocolate and smoky peppers with hints of clove, peanut butter and licorice. Finishes chocolaty, but sort of falls flat. Interesting and worth a try. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!
