(12oz bottle from from Alpar). Pours dark brown/almost black and a riculously large tan head. Carbonation is active. Aroma is chocolate, dark ripe cherries, coffee and caramel. Taste is sweet malt with some nice roast. A little bit of anise at the end. Full bodied with an oily texture. Dry, roasty finish. Pretty good beer that is nicely balanced. Bottle. Dark brown bear color with small tan head. Smells strong. Lots of carob, acidic chocolate, dark fruit, and booze. Light carbonation but a bit fizzy. Licorice is on the palate, then dark roast, mild acidic coffee, dried cranberry, chocolate cookies that are slightly burnt around the edges. Would benefit from a creamier palate, as it ends up seeming a little tart and even thin, but pretty good overall of course. 3fourths (9351) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - NOV 5, 2011
bottle. deep brown body with a tan / cocoa colored head. nose of raisin bread, rum, chocolate pastries, plum jam, caramel malt and nugat. high carbonation and effervescence, out of balance for the body, acid and sweetness. cookie raisin rum plum malt-forward taste with mild to medium roast / chocolate / coffee. turns phenolic when warmer and has an unpleasant but mild tartness and dirtiness from the yeast. could use less carbonation, less yeast and more cookie / dark fruit malt which works well with the roast. mikem409 (2027) - bloomfield, Michigan, USA - NOV 3, 2011

UPDATED: NOV 1, 2011 Snifter at CCB tasting room. Opaque brown black, thin beige head. Sweet brown sugar/chocolate aroma. Damn, this is a nice beer. Really is the missing link between Porter and Dubbel. Has the drinkable subtlety of both, with the big flavor of both as well. Semi roasty, some dark candi sugar notes as well. Roasty, chalky, with some dark raisiny fruit tones as well. Really nails it. Great beer, highly recommended. ekoerper (599) - Iowa, USA - OCT 25, 2011

Fairly roasty flavor, chocolate and caramel, dark fruits and spicy Belgian yeast notes, moderate bitterness, toasty malts. Medium body, high carbonation.
