Pours pitch black with large tan fizz. Smells malted, coffee, with some alcohol. Tastes like weak iced coffee, with some bitterness and a touch of sweetness. Light-to-medium bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Cigar City Black Whole finishes with some mild chocolate notes. adam42381 (386) - Fort Myers, Florida, USA - SEP 12, 2011
Review from notes at Cigar City’s taproom on 9/9/11 for Firkin Friday.
Draft poured into a Cigar City snifter.
Appearance: Poured a motor oil black with a 1 finger creamy tan head. Excellent lacing.
Smell: Belgian yeast, sour fruit and a touch of roasted malt.
Taste: Belgian yeast and roasted malt up front followed by sour fruit in the middle before ending with coffee and burnt toast at the finish. Aftertaste is bitter. Very complex flavor.
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied with a decent amount of carbonation.
Drinkability: Good drinkability. Very smooth.
Overall: Excellent beer overall. I really like the combination of Belgian characteristics with the porter/stout. This was a home run for me. Definitely recommend this one. Mat42m (160) - Lincoln, Nebraska, USA - APR 9, 2012
Served from bottle into snifter. Slight malty, chocolate aroma. Black, cloudy appearance with a thicky, rocky head. Very sweet taste, chocolate taste. Medium body with a coffee like flavor with a long aftertaste. This beer is excellent. So many flavors come out that it is hard to describe. Definitely a favorite of mine from CCB. Supremely impressed! daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - AUG 12, 2011
Yeah Matt. You rock. Dark pour, foamy tan head. aroma is fruity, prunes, char, tart fruit. Flavor is toasty, chocolate, plums, espresso. Awesome. Maltajo (329) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - FEB 6, 2012

On tap at CC, part of the full tap tasting. Pours a nice dark body decent darker head. Right off the top good caramel and toffee notes on the nose. Body is full and smooth and plenty of roasty chocolate notes. I really enjoyed this one but was also tasted with some other palate cloying offerings so hopefully I got the most from this one. Nice offering, but not the best of the day. AcctError54399 (1962) - Manhattan, New York, USA - SEP 21, 2011
On tap at Jimmie 43. Grapes, candi sugar, and plum. Has some weird saison characteristics to it as well. Some clove notes. nuplastikk (6373) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 26, 2011
UPDATED: NOV 1, 2011 Snifter at CCB tasting room. Opaque brown black, thin beige head. Sweet brown sugar/chocolate aroma. Damn, this is a nice beer. Really is the missing link between Porter and Dubbel. Has the drinkable subtlety of both, with the big flavor of both as well. Semi roasty, some dark candi sugar notes as well. Roasty, chalky, with some dark raisiny fruit tones as well. Really nails it. Great beer, highly recommended. mar (5434) - Dallas, Texas, USA - DEC 24, 2011
bottle thanks to blutt59. black with ruby highlights and a thick khaki head. nose is chocolate, graham crackers, and sweet. great on the palate, chocolate, roasted malts, light coffee, and faint spice. jredmond (8445) - New York, New York, USA - AUG 13, 2011
Bottle split with Andrew and streets. Pours a dark brown body with nice off white lacing. Aroma is crazy - caramel and chocolate malts, smoke, and wood. Mouthfeel is medium to thin with notes of smoked caramel malts, sweet dark fruits, wood and roasty flavors. Tastes like a fantastic imperial Porter.
