Good brown. But the bourbon notes completely overpower everything else. It’s not super balanced. Definitely enjoyable... just not the most amazing thing I’ve ever had.

750 ml bottle 5/220 (late 2011). Pours brown to dark brown with a medium creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor have bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, roast, nuts, caramel, some wood and mild earthy bitterness. It opens more bourbon, caramel, chocolate before becoming more nutty toward the finish. Very solid.

Big thanks to Tim and Rachel for pulling this out! Muddy brown pour with a creamy tan head. Wonderful aroma of toasted nuttiness, vanilla, bourbon woodiness, toffee and bitter chocolate. Beautiful flavors meshed well throughout this beer, toasted pecans, vanilla, bourbon wood, chocolate and toffee. Wonderfully balanced and a perfect palate. Blue wax sealed December 2009 bottle shared thanks to Tim and Rachel! Pours a murky reddish brown with bubbly tan head that displayed to leave moderate lacing. Aroma is whiskey, oak, sweet chocolate, and a hint of nut brown malt on the back end. Taste is sweet chocolate and vanilla up front, bitter coffee in the middle, then a clean whiskey and oak finish. Bottle in Chicago with TheAlum. Thanks Adam! Pours a murky orangish brown appearance with a tiny tan head. Dark chocolate, light toffee, a bit spicy, earthy, light whiskey aroma. Rich chocolate and caramel, candy, vanilla, moderately sweet malty, mild bourbon, light butterscotch, a bit nutty, pecan, flavor. Seems to have held up well. Bottle at Dunderölsprovning 2012. Light hazy dark brown liquid with small light tan head. Aroma of fresh coffee, sour wood, bourbon, biscuit, light licorice and light umami. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of some pumpernickel and bourbon. Full bodied with low carbonation. Nicely velvety and smooth. Great body and balanced taste. In short: A toasted nutty brown ale with a superb barrel character. A wonderful surprise
How: Botttle 750ml, green waxed top. Consumed when over two years of age!!! Bottle acquired in a trade with jtclockwork, thanks a lot James.
The look: Cloudy dark burgundy-mahogany body topped by a persistent small light-brown head
Rambling: I totally forgot about this bottle in the back of my cellar, I don’t "age" beers but I give some maturation time to big beers. I find most CCBs big beers to be brutal and unrefined but with the result of the accidental aging of this bottle I think I’m gonna start aging all CCB big sweet beers. Or maybe these guys used to be good 2.5 years ago but now they just make those underattenuated boozy sugar bombs. Anyway…
In long: Nose is overloaded by barrels but somehow doesn’t have that cheap bourbon booze aroma that most BBA beers have. I could smell my glass from one feet away, strong wood character with a sensation of freshly emptied barrels. Taste has plenty of toasted stuff, toasted cashews, toasted caramel, toasted wood, toasted pecans, toasted tree bark, more toasted stuff… A strong bourbon barrels presence but without the booze or actual pure bourbon, this beer has a truly nice woody bourbonny character. The toastiness and strong wood barrel presence totally covers up the sweetness and make the beer surprisingly drinkable. Even my wife loved it and she hates sweet beers, this was really a kick-ass beer, at least this old vintage from 2009 or so. Sometimes I say CCB is shit, sometimes I say CCB are great, and I’m totally fine with people who say that I always contradict myself because it really infuriates me that people say that I always contradict myself.
