COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Double Barrel-aged Double Nut Brown Ale is brewed in honor of the popular Bolita games played in Ybor City in our hometown of Tampa, FL. Bolita means “little ball”, but the profits from the often rigged games were anything but little. A player would pick a number and hope that his bolita came up, while the game operator would employ a variety of tricks to ensure that it did not. There are no tricks in this brew though, just a high gravity brown ale redolent with caramel and toffee like malts and a long nutty finish.  We’ve aged this Cigar City classic in both Spanish brandy and bourbon barrels, adding a remarkable depth of character and flavor boasting notes of raisins, molasses and a pronounced bourbon-like spiciness.

Murky dark brown. I enjoy all of the double barrels I've had from CC but I think they are over hyped. The balance and coolness of the base beer is gone (as was the DB Good Gourd and DB Huna to a lesser extent). It's all about the barrels here. A little hot and sweet, but the brandy and bourbon are both pleasant. Still would take the base for much cheaper.

Bottle @ Caps & Taps. Very dark brown in color with a finger of tan foam. A whole lot of spirit and wood coming through on the nose. Big time bourbon, mostly, though get a bit of fruity brandy in there as well. S’mores, vanilla, and a decent bit of roasted malt. Has a bit of heat that comes through, certainly. It is, surprisingly, not overly sweet either. Actually thought this was pretty nice.

Draft. A brown beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, caramel, and malt, leading to an alcoholic finsih.

Bottle. Colour...very dark brown with an initially thick head. Nose...butterscotch, dark toffee and dates with booze soaked oak. Palate...moderately cloying with big booziness and oaky tannins. There’s a lot of dark dried fruits on the mid palate with a focus on prunes, raisins and currants. Earthly notes hit the back palate as does charred marshmallow.

[email protected] May 2017, Copenhagen - black coloured pour with beige head. Medium sweet, toasted and roasted malty, lots of sweet caramel, toffee, some brown sugar, solid hoppy backing, nice nutty notes, bourbon soaked wooden accents and some spices coalesce into the finish.
