UPDATED: NOV 12, 2009 bottle 378/450 courtesy doug @ CCB -- thank you so much! aroma is a bomb of licorice, tobacco (strong!) and wet rotting wood. flavor is strikingly complex mix of the above plus good general bitterness and alcohol sweetness. this has strong notes of cigars! smoke is present but not in the bacon/BBQ/salty notes usually found but in a dark depth of flavor that is found only in the essence of burning organic material that manifests as plant matter and dirt at once. licorice really lingers, smoked licorice at that! body is dead opaque. this beer is the fear that lurks in the hearts of men. the best CCB beer i’ve tried so far and the best in 20+ beers during my 2009 week in orlando.
12 oz bottle shared with the group in November 2010 notes. Pours dark brown in color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma and flavor have a blend of chocolate, caramel, oak, nuts, vanilla, bourbon, some fruity notes, medium full bodied, just, a hint of tart stuff creeps in. charule (2306) - New York, New York, USA - OCT 28, 2014
Bottle 21/450 I think from StFun for a FreeBeerWeek challenge. Poured almost black with beige tan head. Aroma kind of boozy semi sour smoke. Light carb med bod. Finishes bourbony barrel char but funky sour up front. Past its prime. slowrunner77 (13912) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 1, 2014
interesting blend here. not sure where the tartness comes from (RBers complaining of infected bottles, but it was such a small batch, it woulda been noticed, and batch 3 was sourish too). dark murky brown. scotch ale is the main player, with the dry hopping in the IRIS part contributing an odd yet satisying flavor to the mix. oak and bourbon obvious but not overdone, with a sweet n sour finish." jcartamdg (3539) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 26, 2013
Pours jet black with a big mocha head. Aroma of oak, vanilla, milk chocolate and coffee. Taste is roasty, coffee, chocolate and oak. Very balanced, age had done good to this. shigadeyo (3900) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 1, 2013

11/21/2010: Cigar City Capricho Oscuro Rye Porter (Batch #2)... Aroma: Black walnut, thin bourbon, chocolate. Appearance: Near black in color and opaque; lasting dense brown-colored head. Flavor: Chocolate, bourbon, cocoa, bittersweet licorice; a bit spicy; a hint of coffee; some alcohol in the finish. Palate: Medium to medium-full body; smooth and milky texture. Overall: All the flavors have married well; the beer is still going strong despite its age!
12 fl. oz. bottle shared by alexsdad06. Thanks Brad! Rating #163 for this beer.
Pours dark brown with a khaki head. Smells quite oxidized. Taste is sweet and still roasty. Dry finish and thin bodied. Going downhill, but ok. rbrazell (1698) - Florida, USA - MAR 13, 2013
Bottle shared at Hunaphu Day. Black pour with a small tan head. Whiskey and caramel aroma with fudge, nuts, dark fruits and earth. Flavor hints at a bit of sourness with more dark fruits, burnt sugars and caramel malts. Woody, boozy and big bodied. Glad to have tried it. riversideAK (6265) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - MAR 10, 2013

(Bottle) Pours black with a creamy nougat coloured head. The aroma holds raspberries, subtle fruits, robust/well structured malt (caramel, chocolate, mild coffee, cookies, whisper of smoke) mild tones from the barrel (alcohol, butter, vanilla) and a touch of hops. Balanced nose. The flavour is light sweet, light to medium bitter and tiny acidic with perfect balanced malt, subtle hops , some fruits and well integrated barrel ageing. The mouthfeel is soft, robust and fairly velvety with a light carbonation. Complex, malty finish. Medium bodied. tkrjukoff (4335) - SWEDEN - JUL 30, 2012
Bottle 12 oz, tnx to Greg. Pours black brown with a rich creamy tanned head leaving lace. Aroma is fruity berry raspberries sweet sour slightly vanill and nice touch of bourbon. Flavor is very nice, sweet vanilla bourbony in front, good barrel character with a solid malt base not too heavily characterized by the OT, some nuttyness also towards the end with gentle bitterness and sustained vanilla/bourbon and fruityness. Finishes with all flavors well mixed leaving the bitter and malts the longest straw.
