Bottle from jwattsrugger. Thanks John this was a nice treat. Very complex. Hints of bourbon and coffee. Poured almost black with a nice head and lacing. wedgie9 (2702) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JAN 10, 2011
Tasted on 1/10/11 from a 12oz bottle obtained in a trade. Pours an opaque, almost black brown color with a massive, foamy tan head that slowly recedes to a thick and rocky blanket of uneven lace. The nose is starting to sour. It is likely infected, but still very enjoyable at this point. As I mentioned, there is a sour note on the nose, but there is also a bunch of coffee, creamy milk chocolate, dark roast, and a blend of vanilla and cinnamon that is undoubtedly from the oak. The flavor is a beautiful blend of coffee, both dark and milk chocolate, a good amount of oak, but just a hint of lingering sourness. The body is full and highly carbonated with a super long chocolate and oak finish. Despite the infection setting in, this is still a pretty awesome brew. Black color/ tan head. Vinous, rye, chocolate, vanilla whiskey aromas. smooth mouthfeel with medium viscosity. Very good chocolate, vanilla, red wine, wood, dark rye bread, whiskey flavors-nice barrel brew. TheEpeeist (3709) - Media, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 9, 2011
12 oz bottle. Dark brown with creamy tan frosting. Nose is chocolate, oak and coffee with sour cherry and smoke. Silky medium body, sticky and warming with a soft tang. Taste is super saturated fig, orange peel and cocoa. Tropical fruit, vanilla and dates fade in and out. An intense flavor explosion. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JAN 1, 2011
My latest CCB from fishingnet had some goodies. Thanks, Ben! Pours a luscious dark blackish opaque pour, lush and dark, thick with a moderate darker brown head, dies to a film, laces small. Aromas have a sour cherry tang, moving into rich bourbon spirit, vanilla tannins and wet oak, roasty malts, rye, touches of vanilla, dark fruit, faint peat and some sweeter rich cocoa, and sweet toffee, caramel, and biscuity malts. Some orange marmalade citrus from the Winter Warmer, the Rye Porter falls behind.. The Big Sound adds some nice complexity and strength of flavors. Initial is an infected beer, sour red cherries, touches of vinegar, wet oak and Bourbon spirt. Vanilla, touches of roast with caramel and toffee malts pushing through. Some lingering roast, sweet fudge, the orange marmalade and sweet malts, decent deadened hopping and crisp and slightly oxidized grainy malts show a decent Winter Warmer component. Tartness falls out as I get used to the beer.. But the cherries are still there. Would have loved to have tasted this before infection, but it is still a pretty good beer and blend, perhaps the infection even adds another interesting layer. Overall, I was ok with this.. But it was no uninfected Rurik blend.. That was great. A nice BA beer that seems to have gained an infection, though not for the worse. A good beer, but I think it aspired to be more.. The infection doesn’t make the beer bad, but it does take away from what I think it was supposed to be.

12 ounce thanks to smith4498. Complex blend of flavors largely dominated by chocolate, caramel, and cherry tartness. Very interesting and nice even if all that tartness may not be intended.
