3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle @ Crooked Stave ROY-G-BIV Day, thanks to Armin for sharing this! Pours a dark brown appearance with a thin brown head. Really a lot going on in the nose and not necessarily in a muddled way. There’s some barrel characteristics, some booze, wood, dark chocolate, caramel and dark fruits. A bit of grape and plum fruity in notes in the flavor along with oak, spicy brandy, and caramel. Interesting brew but a bit hot.
12 oz yellow wax dipped bottle. Pours a deep dark brown color and topped by a thin head of bubbles that quickly settles to a still body below. The aroma shows notes of dark fruits, brown sugar, and vanilla leading further into cognac soaked fruit, toffee, caramel, oak, and smooth barrel notes. The brandy and cognac barrels are both present. The flavor follows with the caramel and toffee up front along with the rich, dark fruit and notes of cognac. The dark fruits lead into a nice mix of chocolate, oak laden vanilla, and smooth barrel notes. Not overly boozy at all, but just a nice warming feeling all the way through. Medium bodied, smooth, and with subtle carbonation that leads to a cognac soaked fruit finish. Really nice blend of beers and use of the Brandy and Cognac barrels. A little past its prime right now, but still a solid beer. Really glad I finally got to try this one, as this was the only one I was missing. thomashall (1249) - New Hope, Minnesota, USA - SEP 19, 2015
Bottle shared by Bvery, thanks buddy. Dark brown pour. Aroma is booze, molasses, and caramel. Taste follows, not as hot as it smells. Really good! jsquire (4662) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - MAR 20, 2015
This poured out of the bottle with no head. It had a rich deep mahogany red color when held against the light. The aroma is full of ripe fruit, vanilla, molasses and alcohol. The flavor is dominated by sweet alcohol barrel flavors with some vanilla, ripe plums, dried fruit and more alcohol in the finish. This is not really a subtle use of a barrel. It leaves a long burn on the tongue. tricyclist (1125) - Florida, USA - MAR 1, 2015

Bottle @ RBSG 2014 Grand Tasting. Murky amber pour with a small off-white head. Sweet caramel and raisin aromas. Some milk chocolate, cocoa, alcohol, and vanilla. Flavor has lots of different sweet characteristics, but nothing really works that well together. Sweet chocolate covered raisins, caramel, and vanilla. Some mild roast and spirit, too. Weird. jtclockwork (17604) - , New Jersey, USA - JUN 26, 2014
