On tap at CC: pours pure black with 0 head. Aroma of coffee upfront, some whiskey. Now the Taste is supurb, with the whiskey flavor but no alcohol taste at all, a first for me. Pours pitch black and completely opaque with a two finger mocha head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Chunks of soapy lacing left behind.
Sweet vinous aroma that’s somewhat smokey with a decently integrated barrel character. There’s a wonderful spicy whiskey presence thats strong without overpowering the other notes. This is complimented by hints of toasted oak and vanilla. There’s some nice sweetness underneath with some dark fruits and roasted malt. Hints of plum, fig and raisin countered by chocolate, oatmeal and coffee bean. Smells great! This barrel treatment really improved the aroma of the base beer(s).
Medium bodied but fuller than expected with a really nice barrel presence that’s a bit strong at first but gives way to the other notes as it warms. Lots of sweet, spicy whiskey and dry oak with subtle vanilla and coconut flavor. Underneath there is some vinous fruit and peppery spice along with some sweet and toasted malt character. Hints of raisin, plum, fig and other dark berries followed by toast, dark chocolate and robust coffee bean. Dry finish. Balance shows as it warns but it’s still a bit whiskey heavy. Dark brown. Thick. Nice dark head. Really rich character, nice barrel notes. Very sweet even for an impy. The problem is that the sweetness starts to overwhelm. You can tell there’s a lot going on but because that complexity is obscured you start to feel like there is just something that will always be missing from the experience.

On draft at Hunahpu Day 2012. Pours a dark, imposing stout brown with an off-tan head. Nose is booze, some slight roast, marshmallow, molasses, vanilla, and wood. Flavor is similar with a blend of booze, vanilla, whiskey, roast, slight earth and wood. Big boozy bourbony sweetness. Draft at Hunahpu’s Day 2012. The pour yields a dense and viscous looking mahogany brown body with just a thin layer of smooth, dark brown foam at the head. A dense brown wash stains the glass. Aromas are decidedly sweet, based in a dark choco-molasses richness, showing loads of dark fruit like raisin and fig. Oaky vanilla lends further sweetness, while wisps of remainder green, earthen hops lend just a hint of bitterness. Flavors follow suit, molasses and stewed raisin playing a big role. Chocolate-kissed dark fruits are bathed in sweet vanilla from the Palm Ridge barrel. As expected, the palate is big, warm, and initially smooth, finishing quite sticky and cloying. Pours dark coffee black with a beautiful cinnamon mocha head. Smells sweet roasted malts with delicious coffee chocolate notes. The flavor is the same, sweet chocolate roasted malts and the whiskey barrel smooth on a big smooth thick body.
