We salute Don Gavino with this tart guava ale, aged in chardonnay barrels to create a balance between the sweetness of the base beer and fruit with the tartness of the lactic fermentation.

Not a huge fan of guava, and this beer suffers in my eyes for that and basically that alone, as the base is actually quite nice, the tartness levels are just right, and the wine barrel character adds a nice note to the finish. But the somewhat awkward sweetness of guava paste lingers in my mind and keeps this from pure excellence. Yes, I realize I am drinking a "Double Guava Ale" and complaining about it being too heavy on the Guava.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06 pour hazy brown copper with large ecru head. Nose tart sweet fruit, guava, light funk, and white wine. Taste sweet fruit up front, kiwi, guava, and light tart. Mid palate some white wine. Minimal barrel.

750ml bottle via trade. Poured a thicker bodied dense apple cider vinegar brown with a smaller foamy off white bubble head, sort of ugly. Aroma of sour lemon, wet bread with light vinegar background, acid, paste, nail polish remover. Big body, lighter carbonation and a quicker fading aftertaste that is surprising for a sour. Flavor of acetone, bad rotting lemons, rotting cherry skins, rotting bread and acidity. Meh......

Bottle shared during the RBWG 2015 Grand Tasting. Thanks! Pours unclear gold with a creamy, white head. The aroma smacks of oxidation, with touches of pale wood and rindy citrus. Medium to big sweet flavor with mellow alcohol, tangerine, spicy pine. Medium to full bodied with average to lively carbonation. Lightly tangy on the finish, some citrus fruits, orange, tangerine. OK overall.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a clear copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy sour, fruit and tannic wood aroma. Medium to full body with a tingly texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy sour & sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet & sour finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer for style.

&50 ml bottle shared with the group. Pours a hazy golden amber color with a small yellow beige head. The aroma and flavor have big guava and tropical fruit notes, the wine barrel adds some white grape and wood, nice tart/ sour character, some lactic notes, this has some bite to it as it goes down, some sweetness as well, I enjoyed this overall.

750ml bottle, thanks to alexsdad06 for sharing. Bottled 10/22/13. Funky oaky chardonnay and guava in the nose, pretty nice. In the flavor, more of the same, but kind of peppery too. Hazy amber orange color, completely hazy. Thin off-white head, leaves some loose ropes and bits of lace. Head retains well. Kind of a bigger sweet taste, moderate sour (somewhat strange sour character), moderate bitter taste. Kind of peppery, spicy and biting, but the bite and tingle is kind of interesting. Bite wears off after a bit. I don’t see any ABV on the bottle, but it drinks a bit bigger to me, like 10% or so. Kind of a bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Mildly slick texture. Pretty damn tasty and interesting.

Bottle at RBWG ’15 Grand Tasting @ Coppertail, thanks to whomever shared this one, 21/02/15.
Hazed orange amber with a moderate off white head.
Nose is light piss, citric tinged straw, bitter orange, tropical fruit notes, light white grape.
Taste comprises sweet’n’sour notes, grape must, juicy hop tang, pine, grapefruit, passionfruit.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Decent sour, lactic pangs in the close and moderate acidity, pretty approachable.
