Brown Ale with Spices

Artist and renaissance man, Evander Preston, carves out a unique presence in a world of sameness. Evander’s friends at Cigar City Brewing have brewed an exotic concoction based on his eccentric personality and style. The brew was a blend of flavors from far away lands. We know you will enjoy drinking our beer as much as we enjoyed brewing it. Evander’s studio and workshop is located at Pass-A-Grille, Florida.

750 ml bottle from MeadMe. Thanks, Greg. Really owe you for this last box. My 100th Cigar City rating. Just a few days out from our trip to Tampa (And my first trip to Florida since 3rd grade). Pours a nice deeper brownish hue, gentle haze, glowing copper brown edges, nutty glow is a bit fiery in darker light, darker body and top. A frothy tannish head atop dies to a filmy layer, laces ok. Aromas throw nutmeg and clove, pie spices mix with ginger, gentle spiciness. Brown malts, touches of toffee, biscuits and toast. Gentle nuttiness, more spice as it warms as settles in, truel pie spice with allspice, ginger, and nutmeg taking the nostrils for a ride. Bit of cocoa and chocolate malts, brown malt, nuttiness, and toffee lends itself into the fold. Initial is a lighter end of medium bodied, offering a firmer dryness. Some tobbacco, earthy malts, toast and biscuits onto the palate as we move in. Toast, mellow earth hops. Dry cocoa and toast, nuttiness. Some of that spice dries but also gives some flavor as we enter the middle. Ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg offer some life. Cocoa and chocolate malts, brown malts give some of that backbone as we move into the backend from there. Touches of silky creamy body appear as we get further in, but not a brooding malt body. It’s still small, especially dry as we move into the backend. Gentle cocoa, spicy ginger and dry clove, nutmeg. Dry and gentle spicy elements linger on into the finish. Much different than I expected. Dry yet some life, lighter body but still some flavors and a touch of gentle girth in the middle. Surprising dryness, the spice is firm at front but gets a little more manageable for me as we get into it. Solid beer. A Maduro treatment, I assume. Not bad at all.

Pours a dark brown color with no head. Nose is sweet and spicy. Taste is sweet and spicy with a cardamom and ginger predominance. Finish is sweet and spicy as well, carbonation is soft and texture moderate. Quaff Score 7 / 19

Pours a muddy brown with a brown head and aroma of spices and chocolate. Taste is of lots of spices, chocolate, and light vanill and caramel with a dry, toasty finish. Light, drinkable brown ale

The aroma is spicy and sweet with cola and grains. The appearance is brown with a tiny head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall not very good.

a lovely standard for the brown ale, it has a nice arrangement of nice clean malts with a slight nutty taste, its quite the flavor beer that is a pleasure to drink.

Bottle shared by Christine at Franks tasting. Pours a brown color with off white head. Notes of caramel, cinnamon, nutmeg, fruits, and some more spices. Palate was lightly sticky. Very interesting beer but nothing exceptional.

Pours a deep brown with a thin off white head. Huge spice aroma, cinnamon and nutmeg coming through. Nice malty body with a hint of chocolate and just a little spice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2/16/13. 750mL thanks to nulledge! Clear brown pour with a nice khaki head that lasts and laces plenty. Rich aroma with a big dose of caramel/butterscotch (in a good, enjoyable way) with some spice, possibly ginger, and some more spices, but not overwhelming in any way. Sweet caramel and butterscotch in the flavor as well with a slight spice kick and a hint of tea. Nice!

Some weird spice not doing it for me. Bleh. Grassy? Allspice? Jerky? Not a fan. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
