UPDATED: FEB 18, 2014 Draft at rattle during the sours gone wild event. Pours thick, hazy amber orange with white lacing. Aroma is insane - sweet raspberries, bubblegum, and cotton candy. Mouthfeel is perfectly tart with notes of raspberries blueberries strawberry lemonade, watermelon and a short finish. Hands down the best sour Iíve sampled from Cigar City, and probably top 5 ever. On draft for Hunahpu Day. Pours a light murky brown with a white head. Nose is crazy- first smell is graham crackers, second whiff is tartness with lactic vinegar and tart vinous fruit, third smell reveals a bit of the mutant ninja yeast. I am trying to picture what base beers they used, and I get this image of a "suicide"- where you used to pour many of every different soda into one cup. I think itís got Guava Grove, Vuja De, Sea Bass, and similar funk with maybe some Maduro for support, and there are definite graham crackers and vanilla. The flavor is akin to a blend of these, but the body is SO damned light! I could drink this one by the gallon growler, it is so light in body, yet deep in flavor. Draft at Rattle Ní Hum. Excited to try this beer. Pours a hazy amber with a nice white head. Aroma is very sour. Not much fruit going on in the taste. Juicy and straight up tart. Draft at Cigar City during the 2011 Hunahpuís release. Leading up to this event this was one of my most anticipated beers that was to be on tap. Throughout the night everyone said that they hadnít seen it and wondered if it wasnít going on. A little after 9:00 p.m. I walked into the tasting room and saw that it was on. I immediately told everyone I knew so hopefully more people got to try it.
Pours a hazy dark golden orange peel color with a one finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a thick lasting cap. Good retention, slowly fading into a thin ring that leaves spots of lace behind.
Tart funky aroma with a boat load of fresh raspberry as well as some other vinous dark fruit notes. The raspberries are so fresh I can even smell the seeds. Nice and earthy with some barnyard funk balancing out the sweet vinous notes.
Medium bodied with a very dry tart puckering sour flavor that lingers throughout into a long, dry vinegary sweet finish. Great barrel presence with hints of earthy oak complimenting the prominent raspberry/vinous dark fruit flavor. Again, the raspberries are uber fresh and dominate the flavor but there are other dark fruit notes. Strong red wine presence with plenty of grape and dark cherry. Very tart, puckering and sour while being slightly acidic. Kind of harsh at first but the palate quickly adjusts and thereís a lingering vinegar finish that leaves me salivating for more. Iím glad that I noticed that this was put on because it was excellent.

BottleÖ Hunahpuís Day 2011Ö This beer rocks!Ö Hazy deeply golden ale with a small, frothy, white head. Good retention. The funky bouquet is quite acidic, offering a boatload of tart cherries, under-ripe wild raspberries and a splash of dry red wine. Medium-bodied with a 50/50 raspy/milky mouthfeel and modest carbonation. The funky, acidic flavor is eye-squinting sour, but bonuses some nice, mildly sweet, fruity notes as well. Tart, astringent, dry red wine finish. Kudos to Solan for providing my small sample on the bus trip back to Orlando! Iím glad I didnít totally miss out on such an outstanding sour beer, although I certainly tried. Incredibly intense stuff. This is the other "show-stealer" from the Hunahpuís release party. WOW! One of the best and most complex sours Iíve ever had. Nose is pure funk and tart fruit. A melange of wild yeast and tart flavors that add layer upon layer of aroma. The palate follows in the same style, can detect possible use of some pediococcus, sour cherries, perhaps as well?
