Picked up a 750 ml bottle from Total Wine & More in Tampa. First of the Cigar City beers sampled during MN Gathering 2.5, pours a hazy straw orange colored brew with a rocky off-white head that has some nice retention and lacing. Aroma of light peach, some light yeast, a hint of white pepper and sweet guava. Taste is slightly tart, flavors of mango, some mild tropical fruit, yeast and a hint of funk. Finish is slightly dry and mildly tart with a light wheat and tropical fruit aftertaste. Aroma has some nice character, flavor and finish is a tad on the light side. Bottle. Super hazy peach pour and a nice fruity/sour peach and guava aroma. Flavor was nothing more than some abbrasive tartness and barely noticeable fruit. I really wish it tasted as good as it smelled. DialSquare (5028) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 22, 2009
UPDATED: JUN 2, 2012 RERATE: well this sucks... first time I’ve had the non-sour version and I want my Guava Grove back. The St. Somewhere-yeast version was the only decent widely available sour you can get around here. This was a regular in my fridge on the "two-hearted" level. We’ve discovered better sours since, but it’ll still be missed. SOUR RATE: (8, 4, 7, 4, 17: 4.0) -- 750mL bottle. hazy straw orange pour with two fingers pillowy off-white head and a curtain of sudsy stick. strong tart fruit and funk bready aroma. lemon pepper tart taste with a light earthy bitterness throughout. chewy light to medium palate and tight fizzy carbonation. floral notes in the taste also. finishes dry. I’m not near an expert yet on saisons - but this is light and tasty and, as noted in the description, would pair well to typical white wine foods.
RERATE: we drink this fairly often now. one of our favorites to split over a meal.
RERERATE: THE OLD/NEW YEAST VERSION 8/2011: Pleasant wheat, barnyard, citrus and honey aroma. Taste is a moderately sweet citrus, hay, caramel, belgian yeast - honey, banana, bread. Slightly warm for the 8%. Vibrant carbonation in the medium texture. Gets a little dry in the finish. Nice drinkable saison. I still want my old sour Guava Grove back. (8, 3, 7, 3, 15: 3.6). tyler_mn (1475) - SLP, Minnesota, USA - SEP 22, 2009
750ml bottle. Wonderful aroma. Bursting with juicy fruit pulp. Very mild malt presence. A hint of perfume. Hardly any hops, but the fruit smells amazing... very tropical... guava, mango and papaya. Pours a hazed orange with a white head that quickly dissipates to a thin film. Flavor offers none of the wonderful fruit that the aroma yields. Dry cardboard and cracker malt. Lightly spicy. Dry tree bark and leaf pile. Not a whole lot going on. Slightly more flavor than club soda. Overbearing carbonation with a watery finish. If only it tasted as good as it smelled... Thanks Bob! paiste2002 (186) - Saugus, California, USA - SEP 20, 2009
Bottle thanks to mcbackus. Pours a hazy orange color with a huge white head. Nice lace left behind. Aroma is very nice, sweet yet tart guava, yeasty and funky. Flavor, this is really nice! The guava is really up front and quite dry, dryer then I was expecting. Some nice spice and black pepper in the middle. The finish is yeasty, funky and tart.
Medium body with medium + carbonation. I really enjoyed this beer, I wish I had easier access to the CCB beers. This one would always be on hand.

[Bottle] shared by Skyview. Pours hazy gold with a large, fluffy beige head. Aroma is pretty subdued, some fruitiness, no hops present. Mouthfeel is thin, flavor is nice and fruity, somewhat woody, jelly doughnut on the finish (thanks Andy), light and tart and a bit refreshing. No idea how this is a saison, but it’s nice nonetheless. Thanks to Skyview for sharing! A funky fruit aroma on the golden yellow pour. The warmer it gets, the fruitier the aroma. The body is a little light, but decent. douglas88 (9176) - Portland, Oregon, USA - SEP 19, 2009
750 ml bottle thanks to Ibrew2or3. Pours a cloudy orange color with a very large and foamy white head. The aroma is quite unique; a sweet and soft spicy nose with lots of guava. The flavor is dominated by a yeast spicy mix alongside a ton of nice guava flavors. Quite nice and unique. tastybeer (1853) - Indiana, USA - SEP 17, 2009
UPDATED: FEB 10, 2011 750ml bottle purchased from Total Wine in Tampa. Pours an hazy orange with tons of head. The Guava flavor is nice with a good mix of sour and tart. This is a very innovative saison, points for that. decaturstevo (6244) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - SEP 17, 2009
Slightly hazed orange with a fluffy off white head and lace. Sour aroma with a hint of pepper. Light sour flavor, a dry start with a semi sweet finish. Medium bodied but just a hint of watery.
