Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee, chocolate and wood aroma. Medium to heavy toasted chocolate malt flavor with a heavy bittersweet and small bourbon finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is standout beer.

Pours inky void with thin dark tan head. The aroma is sweet with malts, caramel malts, some burnt malts, a touch of chocolate and thin wafers of spicy earthy citrus hoppiness. The taste comes across in typical Zhukov fashion with lots of tasty smooth roasty malts mixing with velvety dark chocolate as well as light notes of spicy to earthy hops. Thanks to Mar for the growler! Pours black with an iodine color lacing the glass, copper head....nice! Aroma of bitter dark roastiness. Flavor of a strong dark roasted bitterness and baking cocoa. Mouth feel is heavy body, very smooth body and very low-no carbonation. Overall, a nice, strong warming stout....good stuff! You can get some hoppiness out of this but the dark roastiness is very over powering.....I like this!!!!!!!

Growler… This beer rocks!… Midnight black with a small, creamy, light brown head. Nice retention. The aroma is a sumptuous swirl of dark chocolate, tobacco, black cherries, charred oak and leather. Ultra full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and soft carbonation. The flavor is a luxurious intermingling of espresso, oak, charcoal and sweet chocolate crème. Bittersweet, dark chocolate finish. Thanks to daknole for sharing this growler of world class beer! WeeHeavySD (3387) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 22, 2009
Growler from Wetherel. Thanks buddy. Shared at Dasilky1 tasting a few weeks back. Pours black with no head. Nose is chocolate sweet, subtle. Taste is crazy, hoppy, very nice strangely very very good. I liked this a lot but its a damn weird beer. thebaldwizard (1365) - Ohio, USA - DEC 22, 2009
Wow! Thanks to Dakine for a bottle of this gem. One of the best brews I’ve had in quite some time. Incredible aroma. A nice mix of the light citrus hop scents mixed with a faint milk chocolate aroma. The appearance is black with a light brown head. Nice full body with gentle carbonation, which fits the beer very well. The taste is a great balance and complex blend of coffee flavors with light chocolate and the hops coming through in the end and aftertaste. Smooth and rich flavor with very little heat. Tasty stuff for sure! kmweaver (3208) - Petaluma, California, USA - DEC 21, 2009
0.5L swingtop, courtesy of wavers1. Thanks!! This was my favorite beer of the evening. Pours a dark, chocolate-brown color; a similar pour to the Marshal Zhukov: thin yellowish-brown head, nice oiliness. Pleasant lime (?) and apple and citrus notes (bright hop character), bitter chocolate; a nicely integrated fresh hop note here; far more alive than the original. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: nicely oily, relaxed carbonation; lots of lightly bitter milk chocolate, leather, and lime-y / green apple (not in the flawed sense) hop character; lightly resiny, oily, and just a fantastic presence overall; very light barrel presence, actually; much creamier and more effusive than the original, like a chocolate milk character. Lengthy finish of bitter chocolate, toastiness, lingering minerals and light bitterness.
