Appearance: Fairly clear orange sunburst with honey folds and a 3 finger off white crown that shows lots of lace and retention. Smell: Loads of character here. Good floral and herbal hop notes crash into a sophisticated and sexy cedar chip humidor like quality. Tobacco comes to mind but only associatively, it is the cedar chips triggering that more than anything. Taste: Not as pungent as the nose, but again a seemless blend of hops and cedar. I’m really impressed by the combination. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and well carbonated. A touch too crisp for my liking. Drinkability: Nice flavor profile, crisp mouthfeel, and an abv below 8% makes this brew score well in the drinkability department. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-21-2009

Murky copper pour with a half inch off-white head. Tons of citrus hop swim in a sea of cedar. Like opening up a cigar box or a cedar chest. Taste is similar to the original Jai Alai, but turned completely on its head. Nice balance between sweet and bitter. The cedar adds a completely different dimension. Very complex. It lends a soft, mellow, vanilla and wood flavor to the beer. Unbelievable. Nice medium body with a touch of sticky resin. Amazing beer.

Bottle, extra from newcigarz. Mostly clear amber with a huge off-white head. Aroma is citrus, caramel, wood. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter, with the cedar coming in quite strongly, some alcohol as well. Finish is mostly dry and hoppy, a little sweet. Full bodied, moderate carbonation. This drinks like a big DIPA, and I’m not a fan of the cedar at all.

Bottle. Pours dark orange-brown with a slightly off white head that leaves bold lacing on the glass. Aroma is orange, lemon zest, spice, hints of caramel, and the spanish cedar. It smells as though I am in a walk-in humidor. Flavor is grapefruit upfront followed by spiciness and slight hints of vanilla. On the palate the beer is extremely bright and crisp with the hops that are enhanced by the spanish cedar, there is a malt backbone that provides just the right amount of sweetness so there is no lingering bitterness. I wish I had a cigar to pair. This is simply wonderful!

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2011 Dark honey color. Smells of what I assume to be cedar. Pretty good beer this one.
