3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from a 750 ml bottle at home. Smell is of peppercorn and a cigar smell. Taste is of peppercorn with a spicy bite. Dark beer with a dark tan head. watery mouthfeel. After taste of a slight bitterness.
Nice interesting beer. Recommended.
Bottle: Thank you Jcartamdg: Served in a Chouffe glass:
Black beer with a brown head.
Nose shows some cedar. A spicy cedar tone that mixes gently with roast and liquorice. Clearly not your standard Imperial Stout awaiting to be drunk...
The flavour reveals more roast than in the aroma. There’s some wood/cedar, liquorice, wood roast/light coal, bay leaf, friendly spice, bitters and some toffee/caramel ish tints.
Aftertaste is roasty with a more smokey tone, light liquorice and some light cedar tones.
Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, close to full bodied.
Nothing completely crazy or shocking, but an hell of an interesting and tasty beer! bytemesis (9015) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - MAY 8, 2016
Bottle, 2013 thanks to 50Belair! Pours opaque inky black, large creamy tan to brown head, great lacing. Aroma is smoky, anise, cedar, molasses, cocoa. Flavor is light plus sweet, medium bitter, hardwood smoke and cedar chips, molasses, roasted malts, hints of star anise. Full body, lingering bitterness, creamy mouthfeel. Smokiness has likely receded over time, but still provides a nice accent to an unsurprisingly enjoyable CCB stout. Tmoney99 (14866) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 12, 2016
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy earthy wood & toasted dark malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations were exceeded. alexsdad06 (10672) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - MAR 5, 2016
750 ml bottle shared with the group via trade. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, mild smokey character, cedar, dark chocolate, dark fruit, earthy notes, some sweetness but offset mostly by a nice bitterness, mouthfeel is solid, good beer. phaleslu (10553) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 24, 2016
750 ml bottle shared by alexsdad06 - thanks again, Brad! Pours a deep, nearly opaque brown with a small tan head that settles into a ring. Huge cedar aroma and flavor in this one, with chocolate, toasted and roasted malts, sugars, soy, celery, and earth. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a smooth, umami-leaning mouthfeel that also has a little dryness and sharpness. Really odd.

750ml bottle, shared by alexsdad06. Kind of smokey, nice cedar character. Dark chocolate. Sort of tannic. Mild tart, moderate to bigger bitter. Moderate sweet. Some soy. Nice robust character, big earthiness. Dark brown color. Ring of tan head. Medium to bigger body. Kind of slick. Light dry finish. Light carbonation. Mild chewiness. Very nice aroma, but body and taste is a touch off for me. jtclockwork (17101) - , New Jersey, USA - FEB 17, 2016
Bottle - Pours dark brown/black thick tan head - nose/taste of cigar box, cedar, smoked meats, dark chocolate brownie fudge - medium body Sarlacc83 (2287) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 24, 2015
A: Mahogany with brown sugar edges and a cappuccino head. Lacing.
N: Cedar, chocolate, peppercorn, coffee, bark dust, wood shavings.
T: Bitter, woody, and sweet.
M: Oily heavy body, soft carbonation, no alcohol.
O: Argh. Every sip sends chills of disgust running through my spine. Cedar is moth repellent and there’s a reason for that. Ibrew2or3 (8808) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - MAY 2, 2015
750ml bottle pours with a classic deep dark body that supports a full chocolate mocha head of foam. The aroma offers up plenty of chocolate goodness rolling into sweet malts, dark roasted malts, earthy soft smokiness and a sliver of molasses. The taste is smooth and near silky as sweetened chocolate, sweetened dark roasted malts and earthiness unload across the palate. The earthiness grows to a modest level to midway amid pleasing chocolate notes. Toward the finish a soft mild smokiness comes to the surface to at just another tasty facet to this great sipper. jake65 (3986) - Meridian, Idaho, USA - APR 15, 2015
Bottle, Boise imperial stout tasting. Deep chestnut brown with a modest beige cap. The nose is instant cedar chest; rich and potent. Not much else comes through, but at least it’s fresh. Reminds me of a humidor (duh). So much cedar in the taste it pretty well overpowered anything else. Some hints of smoke and chocolate malt, but huge cedar soon takes over.
