4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Growler courtesy of Degarth. Pours a glass staining black with a small but lasting head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, coconut, bourbon, roasted malt, chocolate, tobacco, vanilla, and a hint of cinnamon. Taste is the same as aroma. Full oily mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and a nice amount of warming from the alcohol. Another amazing beer from Cigar City.
Pours black as night with a fairly tall deep tan head that drops quickly. Aroma of rich bourbon up front but immediately balanced by ancho chilli, cocoa, vanilla, hot damn if this isn’t one of the best aromas I’ve ever experienced! Taste is rich bourbon fiery, roasty, chocolate, sticky sweet, honestly a bit much. The chilli finish helps but still too sweet. Rich and creamy body with soft carbonation. bytemesis (9510) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - DEC 30, 2017
Bottle thanks to El Cat and Homer! Pours opaque black, small dark brown creamy head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is wonderful, bourbon, cocoa, hints of vanilla, dark chocolate, cinnamon, oak. Flavor is quite sweet, light bitter, a bit of pepper spice remains, other spices mingle with the bourbon and give a very deserty, yet drinkable, feel. Touch of marshmallow. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. One of the best. I am kicking my own ass that I was not on this one in the second chance sale earlier this month. Dumas. Hoprider (784) - DENMARK - DEC 30, 2017
Pours a jet black oily cookie with an espresso crema coloured foam. Aroma is busting whiffs of charred malts, big cinnamon, green chilli, light soy, molasses and light hints of vanilla. The taste is intensely roasted and the taste is initially big on soy, ashy bitter roast and cinnamon with not much bourbon coming through. This needs 15+ minutes to unfold the sweeter notes. After a good amount of time, you actually do get some vanilla, light chocolate and sweet cinnamon working well together. Very different beer after 20 minutes and it did become enjoyable but it just took too long and even then the barrel didn’t come through much. I was really crossing my fingers but as with many other CCB beers of recent times, this was just overly roasted, soyish, charred and ashy. koleminer20 (4176) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - DEC 28, 2017
From notes. Enjoyed at a tasting with ebone1988 and Gus on December 10. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a nice darker black with a thin film of dark brown head that actually makes an audible fizz as it disappears. The aroma is full of alcohol. There is a light chocolate and a good bit of pepper that opens up with it, but the sharpness of the bourbon really dominates. There is a good oaky barrel backbone to it as well, which isn’t terrible. It does sweeten up on the back end. The flavor is much of the same. The chocolate and pepper really come through behind the bourbon and a strong oak presence. There is a hint of sweeter malt and a kiss of vanilla on the finish, but the alcohol drives this one from front to back. The mouth feel is medium to heavy bodied with a sharper carbonation and a lingeringly alcohol-dominated spicy chocolate finish. This one is a bit disappointing for what I was expecting and/or hoping for. Not bad, but lacking. 7 4 7 4 15 dzudohonor (339) - POLAND - DEC 26, 2017
W nosie wanilia, cynamon, kakao, czekolada i papryczki chilli.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2017 As with the original, this is pure cinnamon. Bourbon mellows it, add deep oaky vanilla tones. Incredibly nice RasmusOtt (2933) - Aarhus, DENMARK - DEC 10, 2017
Bottle @ dangerous julepeppernøddershare. Pours pitch (real pitch hunahpu style) black with a dark espresso brown head. Aroma has the big bourbon notes along with cinnamon, vanilla, Cocoa, slight chili peppers, fudge and dark baked brownies. Just wow. Taste of Cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla, roasted malts, some chili heat, dark chocolate and some bourbon. Mmmmm. ebone1988 (2237) - Dearborn, Michigan, USA - DEC 10, 2017
El Cat #2. Bottle shared with koleminer20 and Gus, side-by-side with regular Hunahpu. Aroma is bourbon, barrel, slight cinnamon, chocolate, pepper, nice. Appearance is black, poured thickish, head dissipated quickly but was darker brown. Taste is cinnamon, dark fruit, bourbon, barrel, chocolate, molasses, heavy, pretty good. Mouthfeel is heavy body, light carbonation, bourbon cinnamon pepper dark fruit aftertaste. Overall, it's good, but I guess I expected more. cards04 (2943) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - NOV 29, 2017
Thanks Dchmela. What a beauty. Pours pitch black. Dark head that fades quickly. Incredibly decadent and rich. Aromas of dark chocolate, brownie batter, bourbon, bread. Flavours are yeasty, bread, dark chocolate, mild chili peppers, bourbon. Dark chocolate dominates. Sweet and bitter burnt malts. Just excellent. Bottle via trade. Pours an inky black, cascading foamy brown/cinnamon colored head that fades to a thin ring with oily splotches. Aromas of cocoa, bourbon, wet oak, light cinnamon, light vanilla. Taste follows with fudge, molasses, light cinnamon, medium barrel, faint peppers. Sticky sweet. Light cinnamon in finish with warming alcohol....barrel touch of wet oak and vanilla. Medium bitter. Really tasty stuff!
