The Last Tasting at Bruce’s palatial pad. Thanks to Bruce for landing this whale. Opaque black - brown beer, good darkish tan head. Palate is viscous and smooth and slightly soft. Fine carbonation. Good dark chocolate, Bourneville like. Tangy dark fruits, fairly intense. Much lighter generic fruits on top. A little spirit but not really getting any clear brandy flavours. Finishes smooth with bitterish dark chocolate and nice mellow, barely-there chilli. Nice beer. Top 50? Not for me.
Bottle at Bruce’s in London - many thanks to...Bruce! Pours thick black with a moderate, brown cream head. Nose has chocolate, dark fruits, coconut, raspberries, soft wood. Medium sweet flavor with lots of gooey chocolate, jammy berries, fruit leather, a bit of burnt wood, bitter earth. Full bodied with fine, lightly creamy carbonation. Some alcohol heat on the finish, lots more jammy berries and other fruits, baking cocoa, charred wood, earth. Pretty solid. Bottle @ 10K + OT. Bottle from Dr. Owl, thanks. Black without much in the way of a head. Spicy, earthy ancho chile pepper all the way on this one. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and a touch of marshmallow. Slight brandy fruitiness. Sweet dark chocolate, vanilla, and graham cracker on the palate. A decent note of brandy, lots of smokey, earthy, spicy chile pepper. Slight bitterness. Good coffee note as well. Not as good as the double barrel, but well done.
