Nice dark brown opaque oily pour. The aroma is pure raw oak.
Taste is a little dry. jtclockwork (17070) - , New Jersey, USA - SEP 29, 2011
Growler. Pours oily black with dark brown head. Nose/taste of chili pepper, oak, vanilla and dark chocolate. A bit more muted than other versions. Still an amazing world class brew. Medium body. GT (10002) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 26, 2011
Tap at BA Hunahpu thanks to drowland for the pour! Typical Zhukov ink black SRM. Used motor oil. Diminishing Martian red head. No lace or retention really. The nose on this one is just straight up acetaldehyde- apple juice 100%. Taste is chalky, bitter, lemony tart, barely spicy in the finish. Chalky, mildly acidic and tart palate. Pretty much a giant mess. Murdered by the Tiramisu Sweet Stout. OmegaX (1375) - Florida, USA - SEP 25, 2011
Tap @ Hunahpu release day!! Nose is lots of oak and some vanilla and dry chili smokiness. If you’ve ever cooked or made mole with chilis then you know what I mean. Poured the usual jet black with a super dark colored head that coated the glass. Taste was lightly smokey with loads of oak. Almost too much. The vanilla, chocolate, and chili heat come out when the brew warms up some. Quite unique and good. Chipalsa (1310) - Florida, USA - SEP 25, 2011
Smelled great, almost earthy with a robust chocolate and hops nose. This was a funky one, tasted like a lot of chocolate and roasted malts with a presence of wood that was more like a pencil though. Wasn’t too complex in that it was easy to pick out what I did and didn’t like about this brew. This one makes a great sipper however.

Poured a jet black with very little head straight from a 32 ounce growler. Aroma of chocolate, oak, chilis, vanilla, and more oak. Flavor tastes like the regulare Hunahpu, with a heavy oak treatment. Really good overall, and has a real nice oak aftertaste, and a slight hint of smoke. Jlo7399 (218) - Florida, USA - SEP 24, 2011
Pours jet black. Aroma is sweet and roasty. The oak comes through on the nose as well. Taste is complex with coffee, chocolate, wonderful smoothness from the oak, and great heat on the end. Sticky mouthfeel...this one will stay with you. Fantastic. scotchzi (302) - Florida, USA - SEP 24, 2011
UPDATED: SEP 27, 2011 Pour is deep black with dark tan sticky head. Smell is ashy resiny dark coffee light roast and molasses. Taste is oaky sweet light but a big huge vanilla sweet light cherry not much pepper nibs a bit of alcohol. Really really good thx ccb. drowland (8932) - Georgia, USA - SEP 24, 2011
UPDATED: SEP 27, 2011 9/24/11. On tap at BA Hunahpu. Jet black pour with a small brown head. Slightly sour, roasty chocolate and coffee aroma with a touch of oaky vanilla in there. Nice roasty coffee and chocolate flavor, some ash, a touch of tartness, and a subtle hint of oaky vanilla as well. Nice! Retry from the growler shows even more vanilla and coconut in the flavor. Awesome. 50belair (3679) - Florida, USA - SEP 1, 2011
UPDATED: OCT 19, 2011 On tap at the Funky Buddha. Joan Jett black pour with a beautiful dark brown head. The aromas are very similar to regular Huhahpu’s deep roasted malts, bitter chocolate, and peppers. The oak makes a huge statement and while it doesn’t overwhelm the fantastic base beer, it does sort of mask the coco nibs, cinnamon, & vanilla undercurrents I love. That being said you still get a little heat from the chiles in the finish....
