COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Mayan mythology, Hun Hunahpu was the father of the Mayan hero twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque. Hun Hunahpu, along with his brother Vucub Hunahpu, was tricked by the Dark Lords of the underworld and slain. Hun Hunahpuís corpse morphed into a cacao tree, his head becoming a cacao pod, which in typically awesome mythology fashion, spit upon the hand of a young maiden named Xiquic who promptly became pregnant with the hero twins. The twins would ultimately grow up to avenge their father and uncle and defeat the Dark Lords and ascend the heavens to become the moon and sun. We brew Hunahpuís Imperial Stout once a year and release it only at the brewery. We will continue to do so until the end of the cycle. Released on the second Saturday in March at the brewery.

Pours black with a finger dark tan head. Still one of the darkest beers Iíve ever seen. Smell is a clusterfuck. Got the coco, some spice, some roast and a lot of coffee. Taste is...carrots? Chili and coco, bit of a chalky texture, very well balanced, cinnamon, graham crackers. Magnificent. Loses the red fruit of Marshal but gains so many more flavors. This can stand beside Abyss. Itís a near perfect blend of perfect flavors. Rich, but not overpowering. Thick but not heavy. Delicious and beautiful.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2013 Bottle from trade with StFun. Black pour with a small, medium brown head, and aroma of sweet complex malt and chocolate. Flavor is subtle, of chocolate, cherries, smoke, and a bit of a burn (chilies?). A lot going on, but nicely refined. Carbonation is soft and works well. Sort of velvety mouthfeel. This is pretty complex with interesting flavors, without being overly sweet or over the top. Almost subtle. If I nit pick it, I would want a little more intensity to the flavors.

Bottle @ Chrisoís Pre-GBBF Shindig. Cheers to whoever brought along this top want! The pourís deep brown with a small tan head. The nose is soured chili, some light red berry fruits. Chocolate and spicy cocoa. Cardamom. The taste is very fragarant chocolate, some mandarin orange spikiness. Strong presence of cinnamon and light chili flake. Nice. The bodyís full and thick. Viscous, legs on this. Overall, pretty excellent. Certainly unique, though I probably prefer Zhukov.

2012 bottle. Pours a gorgeous oily black with a very light cirrus-cloud-like head that swirls lovely in the snifter. Aroma of heavy chocolate, some molasses and boozy bourbon, which surprised me since this was not a barrel-aged version. Taste of sweet coffee, biscuit and vanilla, with the flavors complementing each other oh so well. It hides the 11% ABV well; itís not nearly as boozy as the nose suggests. Very slick palate. Overall, freaking awesome.

2011 Bottle to glass, multiple 2-4oz pours. Thick, black pour. With a swirl, the viscous liquid coats the glass staining it amber for more than a moment. Aroma is chocolate, toasted wood, and vanilla. Taste is similar but even bolder plus the subtle addition of chile spice toward the end. Truly great and I canít wait to try the Apple Brandy version. Bottle at ChrisOís pre-GBBF Shindig provided by Paul Unwin. Oily black, thin tan head. Looks damn good. Nose is sour red fruit, raspberry, dark chocolate, black sugar. Nose isnít winning me over. A lot of sour and bitter red fruit and roasted malt flavours. Taste is awesome though. Pure dark chocolate, fresh black coffee beans or fresh cafetiere coffee, bit of strawberry and raspberry sour fruit. Finish is amazing black coffee and rich pure dark chocolate. Chocolate and coffee bitterness. Amazing beer and has the richest dark chocolate flavour Iíve ever had in a beer. Also some lactic, milky and vanilla notes coming through on the finish.

a-a dark little head on a black as night beer s- chocolate, coffee, tobacco, hops, charred wood. t- cocao, pine, dry wood that has been lightly charred, tobacco and coffee and chili warmth at beginning and the end. md- Silky smooth and very drinkable closer to a medium bodied porter the way it felt. I could drink a bit more and found it to be very drinkable considering itís weight.

Bottle @ FanÝ Slumber Party, 2012.
Pours deep black with a small, creamy, dark beige film head. Aroma has chocolate, is vinious, sweet, nutty and luscious vanilla. Medium carbonation, fat and creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is fairly sweet, nutty, chocolate, roasted, vinious, pleasantly elegant. At the same time in my face and subdued. Very good despite the sweetness. Warming in the finish.

A pitch black colored beer, with a brown head. The aroma of coffee, dark malts and chocolate. The taste of coffee, fruits, dark malt and chocolate. The aftertaste is a little sweet and bitter chocolate.
