So, what you have here is an imperial sweet stout aged in cognac barrels. It tastes like finding money in your coat pocket with hints of your bag being the first one out of the carousel at baggage claim. Its good.

Wow, oh wow. On draft at Hawthornes. Incredible aroma. Vanilla, oak, little bit of maple syrupy sweetness. Looks like used motor oil, minimal head. Tasted like coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and sweet smoke, almost closer to a bourbon then a beer. Full, burly body, beautiful finish.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is full of sweet chocolate notes and cognac. Light roast, tobacco and leather notes. Some raisin, fig, date and prune. Some faint anise notes. Light molasses and dark caramel notes. Hints of alcohol spice. As it warms some light lactose notes become evident. Pours jet black with a forced, small, thin, dark mocha head that briefly appears before immediately disappearing. No lacing and fairly long legs. Flavor is very sweet as expected with waves of sugar. Its sweet upfront, but it finishes just as sweet if not sweeter. Lots of chocolate upfront with some lighter chocolate in the finish. More roast, tobacco and leather than in the aroma. Some light dark caramel and molasses notes with hints of anise. Moderate cognac notes with some raisin, fig, date and prune notes. Some light oak and medium alcohol spice. Medium low to low bitterness. Mouthfeel is rather full bodied and slightly creamy with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall, this is better than I was expecting. it is very sweet, but not cloyingly so. There is a bit of roast, and other notes to break up the sweetness. The cognac is present but doesnt add a ton of sweet notes.

_angst_ (4802) - Gteborg, SWEDEN - APR 3, 2016
Bottle @ Himmeriget. Pours viscous black with a small mocha head that leaves some sticky trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty with roasted malts, sweet dark bread, caramel, toffee, charred wood, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, raisins, prunes, dates, sweet liquorice candy and brandy/sherry alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and fruity. Mouthfeel is soft, round, viscous, velvety, tiny astringent, slightly boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, milk chocolate and dark fruits in brandy. Very sweet yet very nice with well incorperated frutiness from age and the barrel.

Sampled from bottle @ "Het is allemaal de schuld van Koen" tasting. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized quite quickly diminishing brown head. Aroma is malts, sweetish, honey, molasses, lightly sweetish liquorice. Taste malts, sweetish, sweetish liquorice, some alcohol sweetness, cognac BA provides some sweetness as well. Quite thick oily texture, full body, soft carbonation. Nice.
