What you have here is an Imperial Dark Rye Ale. Isnt that a lot to be going on in just one beer? Well yes, it is. But that is the point. Layers. Flavor elements building on and playing off of preceding elements, like a building wave; a growing crescendum of taste bud temptation; a wall of sound expressed through flavor and channeled toward your mouth. This beer isnt for everyone. In many ways it is more than just a little weird. It certainly doesnt fit easily into any category. In the spirit of all great things that are conceived in the moment, but perfected through passionate repetition it started life as an improvisation and grew from there. And it might not be for you. But if the thought of big spicy rye notes, a wallop of a hop punch, multitudinous layers of caramel, sweet malt and a respectable balancing gravity sound intriguing then you might want to wing it and give Improv a try.

[email protected] Hazy deep brown colour with mediumsized beige head. Aroma is chocolate, fruits, some slight yeast, mild wood and herbs. Flavour is zest, chocolate, mild toasted notes as well as some ryebreadlike notes. Underlying fruityness all the way through as well. Quite interesting brew.

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2010 Bottle 75 cl. RBESG Rome 2010. Pours an almost clear amber golden with an off-white head. Fresh citrus and peachy hops in the nose. Medium body, sweet fruit and peaches from the aroma hops that also leave a fresh and bitter hoppiness in the finish.
NOTE: we were informed at the tasting, that this was a trial brew of "Improvisacin IPA" which is different from the Improvisacin (Oatmeal Rye India Brown Ale) listed here. But apparently the IPA version would be released later. Please move my rating by then. 060610

Bottled, thanks baggio! Hazy nut brown, small beige head. Complex aroma where nothing really stands out. Chocolate, orange and wood are there. Mid-sweet wit soft yet solid mouthfeel. Caramel, chocolate, marmelade, roastiness and menthe are flavours I pick up from this well integrated beer. The bitterness keeps growing. Quality all the way!

Opaque dark brown beer. Thick head - a vibrant cream colour! Softish smooth palate. Nice malt, rich but not overly so. A little rye spice. Trace of caramel and a whisper of chocolate. Nice mild fruity undertone - cherry and orange. Rye comes to the fore again with good citrus hops. Mildly bitter aftertaste. Well joined up.
