3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. The pour was a rich dark brown with a large (2-3 finger) light brown frothy head that lasted a little while, eventually receding down to a heavy film with a large collar and excellent sticky spotty lacing.
The aroma was of a toasted cereal malt, pine hops and an earthy yeast with notes of rye, oats, coffee, dark chocolate, caramel and a slight nutty presence.
The taste was very malty with a slight caramel sweetness and a hint of chocolate and oats early on, progressing into a nice hoppy flavor with notes of coffee and rye towards the end. The flavor lasted an average time proceeding the swallow with a pronounced piney rye taste left lying on the taste buds.
Mouthfeel was medium in body with a dry creamy texture and a medium carbonation.
Overall a great job on the blending of flavors that created a smooth, bold taste and an awesome drinkability, which did a fantastic job of hiding the high ABV...
Bottle. Gusher. Lots of vinegar. Apple. Gross tartness and apple vinegar. Light body blots of carbonation. Not good. slowrunner77 (12895) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 30, 2015
Think this bottle had some age on it. Smelled and tasted muddled malty sweetness and rye. If there was a hip presence it was nearly gone. Hate to score as is, but it’s what I had in front of me. Just ok, which is not the norm for CC. rdixon77 (3037) - Georgia, USA - APR 14, 2015
Old rating. Dark Amber. Fun beer...all over. Rye, spices, earthy hops, bread, some fruitiness, oak. A bit muddled, but still was a good strong dark rye beer. CousinBrenden (131) - St Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 14, 2015
Brown pour with one finger head. Aroma of spice and rye and some oak. Full of complex flavors from the hops malts and especially the rye. alliance100 (1172) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - JAN 30, 2015

Bottle split at the Manny G tasting, from an IP trade - as Improv, 28/06/14.
Opaque dark mahogany brown with a big old frothy tan head.
Nose is dark fruit, brown bread, spice, earthy.
Taste comprises earthy hops, rye bread, spice, light cocoa powder, hints of tropical fruit peel, grain.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light hop rinse in the close.
Decent enough offering but not one I’d rush back to. Leighton (22329) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 28, 2014
Bottle shared in London - thanks to Colin. Pours clear amber with a huge, light tan head. The nose holds toasted grains, dry caramel. Medium to big sweet flavor with ripe berries, crunchy leaves, more caramel, toast, earth. Full bodied with lively carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish with toasted herbs, earth, leaves, grape skins, burnt grains. So so. Some interesting elements but not terribly drinkable. Scopey (15753) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 28, 2014
Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours deep brown with a massive light tan head. The nose is roasty, caramel, dried fruits, fruit cake, raisin, brown sugar and cake. The taste is rich, roasty, earth, toast, cocoa, dark fruit, brown sugar and ash with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Tasty and rather drinkable. Solid. Dark brown of color with a beige head. An aroma of oat, salty, caramel, hops and weak citrus. A flavor of cereal, citrus, caramel, malt, bitter and dry. NeoHippie2 (1074) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - MAR 30, 2014
Dark brown pour with an off-white head. Aromas of spicy, earthy rye. Flavor is similar with some nice sweet malt notes. Abv is very well-hidden. Very drinkable.
