COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

Very near perfect IPA. Was visiting Florida and luckily found it at the local Publix in Hallandale. It has been near the top of my list of beers to try. As food as delivered. Aroma was of sweet orange, grapefruit, mango and floral scents. Pours a hazy orange color with a big frothy off-white head that leaves quite a bit of lacing down the glass. A somewhat medium mouthfeel and some resinous feel to it. Kind of oily. Hops are evident throuhout, but never once do they overpower the other flavors. More of a perfect compliment. Flavors really burst on the tongue and in the back of your throat. It’s truly a wonderful beer and one I hope to drink a lot more of in the near future.

From a can, was dated a little bit (2 months or so). Very nice aroma, tropical flavours, nice malt balance but not too much. Could feel a bit of the alcohol, but otherwise best of selection of 7 Florida IPA’s I bought.

12 oz can. Pours clear copper color. Aroma of grass, spruce, apricot, hint of citrus. Flavor is piney, citrus, pineapple. Quite a well balanced IPA.

From can in IPA glass. Pours amber with two finger white head with stamina. Quite a balanced IPA with creamy mouthfeel from the malt and a bit of citrus peel in the finish that works well with hop bitterness. Ditto previous recent comments: glad to see CC in Oz.

From a 355ml can on 15/7/2017. Pour a slightly cloudy medium golden with a small head. The aroma is mainly fruity hops with some light zest. Flavour wise, there’s some caramel and biscuit malt, with sweet citrus and stone fruit following (orange and apricot). An intense lemon, grapefruit and kaffir lime leaf bitterness finishes things off, providing a wonderful and distinct balance to the fruity sweetness up front. Has a smooth, relatively thick palate, with moderate carbonation. This is my first Cigar City and I’m not disappointed. A lovely, hoppy top flight IPA.

A 12 fl oz can with a canned on date of 21st March 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass. It was a slightly hazy light copper orange colour with a two finger slightly off white head that had great retention and left lots of nice lacing. Aromas full of citrus grapefruit peel, orange rind and lemon with hints of tropical pineapple and pine. Tastes a nice sweet-ish malty caramel and biscuit backbone, followed by some nice citrus grapefruit and orange with a touch of pineapple and a mildly bitter finish. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall to be fair, perhaps this was hidden in my fridge a bit too long. It was however, still well balanced and enjoyable to drink.

Big strong super IPA. All grapefruit and pine cones with intense but enjoyable bitterness. Glad to see this mob make it to Oz. Quality. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

DATE: July 1, 2017... OCCASION: chilling with Jer after Spikes game with a Liqour Factory growler ($5 off--criminal!)... GLASSWARE: Hopshop 20 oz. pint... with a golden amber body that forms a triple-fingered head of white foam that craters slowly, its creamy body substantial and lasting... mango, grapefruit, the classic citric aromas associated with an IPA (lemon, orange peel, resin)... pepper and other spices suggest a round, full profile... smooth, textured sips whose body belies its 7.5% ABV... a comfortable finish lasts between sips... the resin and tropical fruits build a lively, engaging taste that is at home and encouraging of its next sip... bitterness is short-lived... more than six years after the party began, I finally experience CC’s JA’s greatness, a balancing act of malts and hops that delivers a nuanced, flavorful IPA...
