COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

Tap. It was a pretty standard East Coast IPA when all is said and done. Pours a hazy golden-orange with a small white head. Aroma is pine hops, citrus hops, and a bit of yeast thrown in for good measure. Taste is about the same, with a nice smoothness to the beer. Very solid, if not spectacular. I think their different variations of this with fruit are stronger.

Pours amber, large lasting head. Nose shows pine, passion fruit, melon, peach and floral hops along with some underlying sweet-smelling clean malt and a hint of a biscuity note. Flavours include more peach and along with prominent piny, resinous hops and some grassy notes. Some balancing malt in the background but the focus is definitely on the hops. Finishes slightly metallic-like.

Draft at Anthony’s pizzeria in Orlando. Fluffy white head in this dry, hoppy and strong IPA that goes well with meat pizza. Citrus flavours, slightly thin mouthfeel, low carbonation.

Decent. Way overrated. Nice aroma, some fruit. Not hugely hoppy. Balanced, but common.

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2017 Strong hops with spicy notes. Pairs perfectly with a Publix buffalo chicken tender sub!

Golden color and nice frothy head. Aroma of sweet citrus, tea, peach. Taste is surprisingly boozy with a harsh grassy note. Some citrus and black tea.

Light orange pour, thin white head. Light watery body, medium hops. Heavy on the citrus.

Can pour dated 6/18/17. Pours orange with a white head, nice lacing, head that sticks around. Aroma is a weakness of an otherwise excellent IPA, bit vegetal but with some tropical fruit and pine that comes through. Taste is excellent, pine, grapefruit, NW hop forward for sure (probably the classic C’s). Clean finish. Not overly remarkable but would enjoy again for sure.

HAPPY 200th IPA on IPA DAY! 355mL can canned on 2/22/17 Nice looking deep orange gold hazy body, dense head leaves lace. Good punchy hop nose - bitter orange, ruby grapefruit juice, kumquat, pine sap, pale caramel. Enjoyable texture - slick, chewy, sticky, excellent weight & balance, smooth carbonation. Packs plenty - juicy citrus, bitter citrus, oily citrus, sappy wood, cut herbs, lawn clippings, kind of sweet with caramel & toast then quenched with bitterness. Very good IPA, far too drinkable!

Rating #2553 - 2016.05.05 - Can at Bainbridge in Philly. Pour is a hazy orange/gold with a huge white head that bubbles away quickly, no visible lacing. Aroma is grapefruit, tangerine, and floral, grassiness, mild piney note. Taste is mild tangerine sweetness, but a boat load of sticky, resinous, piney hops. This is almost chewy. Assertive Bitterness.

Great nose from a 12oz pour from a can - tropical fruit for sure. Orangey pour with a thick, white pillow. Also, good lacing is present. A definite hop punch is in the taste, but I’m getting a little watery, metallic mix in the bitterness. It’s a solid IPA, but when it was put in the same class as Bells Two Hearted and Fat Head Headhunter, I was hoping for much more. Cheers!
