3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Thanks to Momar42 for the bottle! 12 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours a very dark red color. The head is a one finger offwhite shade with poor retention.
S: I’m sure a fresher bottle would provide a better hop profile, but in its current state, it offers light notes of citrus and herbal pine. The malt itself provides light chocolate, hazelnut, toffee, and roasted malt.
T: The hops are evident at the onset - and even in their faded state, still offer notes of grapefruit peel and evergreen. After a while the hops fade to reveal more of the dark, chocolaty malts. Like many robust porters, it’s ultimately too acidic, especially near the finish. The hop profile picks back up after the midtaste. Not bad, but there’s something here holding back (maybe the catty Simcoe-esque tone on the aftertaste? That’s what ruined Night Stalker for me) its potential.
M: It features a strangely chalky dryness to it - for some reason, it makes this very hard to drink. Or maybe that’s because of how heavy it feels. At least the carbonation fits its resiny, heavy texture.
O: Don’t hate it, don’t love it. I’m finding it hard to drink, if not completely unpalatable. These robust porters never fully work for me. Still, I’d like to try this fresh - we can’t look a gift horse in the mouth, can we?

Pours dark brown wit brownish head. Aroma: lot of coffee, roasted malts, tobacco, burnt wood. Taste: medium bitter, roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, oak corn. Full body. Well balanced. Bitter-roasted finish. Nice Porter.
Black pour. World class head volume, lacing and retention.
Quite outstanding nose of chocolate, light roast, caramel, molasses and a very light touch of char. In the background is a light floral hop note.
Light full body that is quite smooth and silky, but not quite creamy, in texture. Outstanding carbonation / body balance with a mildly effervescent middle and a nice prickly finish.
The flavor profile is world class. The higher hopping rate adds a new component to this already complex porter. It begins with roast that shifts to bakers chocolate just before the middle. The middle is buttressed by a rich caramel and molasses sweetness that makes the chocolate shine and shift from bakers to sweet chocolate. Here the hops also shine contributing a moderate bitterness and pine/grapefruit note. As the bitterness fades, the hop flavor shifts to light sweet fruit as the solid malt base sweetness ascends into the close. The finish is a delicious slow fade of chocolate and hops. A light char note lingers. FatPhil (16102) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - APR 29, 2016

Dirty roast aroma, some messy herbal aspects to the hops. Taste also dirty. Roasty, but rough.

Tap sample at Tallinn Craft Beer Festival. Dark brown with persistent dark tan head. Sweetish roasty aroma, very pleasant, chocolate-cocoa, black rye bread and red berries, brandy and vanillaish notes even. Strong bitterness, but just enough to make all the rest livelier. Somewhat ashy dry. Excellent brew. Marduk (7694) - Reval, ESTONIA - APR 11, 2016
Tap @TCBW 2016. Pitch black color. Medium size, brown head, stays. Alcohol, dark chocolate, coffee, roast, sweet and woody in aroma. Dark chocolate, raisins, coffee, roast, woody and sweet in taste. Nice roasted chocolate malts in aftertaste. Drink is bit too cold at first, but as it warms up it’s getting even more tastier. Excellent brew. More! On tap at TCBW 2016. Dark browne, almost black colour. Slight layer of beige froth on top. Very refreshing and fruity aroma - hints of apricots, citrusses and other tropical fruits. Juicy, apricoty and fruity beginning. Hints of coffee in the middle. Maltiness. Some caramel and slight sweetness in the end. Hoppes in the aftertaste. Slightly citrussy.
